Sandro Tonali reacts following the transfer bombshell regarding Newcastle United’s ‘gentleman’s agreement’.

In a display of actions over words, Sandro Tonali delivered a match-winning performance for Italy last night.

He scored a goal and provided an assist against Northern Ireland, propelling Italy into the World Cup play-off final.

Gli Azzurri, who have not participated in football’s premier tournament since 2014, will face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday in a decisive match. Tonali opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a well-timed half-volley from outside the penalty area.

The midfielder then assisted on the 80-minute mark with a lofted pass to former Everton striker Moise Kean. Following his absence in the Tyne-Wear derby loss to Sunderland last weekend, questions about Tonali’s fitness emerged on social media.

Sandro Tonali addresses the transfer speculation

In Tonali’s view, he provided the ideal response after yet another transfer bombshell surfaced yesterday. The Gazette reported exclusively that the 25-year-old and his representatives believe they have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with the club.

If Newcastle United does not qualify for Europe next season, his team understands that the club will entertain offers for him. Currently, Eddie Howe’s team is positioned 12th in the Premier League with seven matches left to play.

From the club’s standpoint, no such agreement exists, as communicated to the media following The Gazette’s report. Tonali moved past the transfer rumors with a stellar performance for his national team.

What Sandro Tonali expressed in November

Looking back to November, Tonali first raised concerns about his future at Newcastle after the Champions League victory over Athletic Bilbao. He remarked: “In football, you need to think year on year.

“I don’t want to claim that I want to remain here for 10 years, only to leave in two, three, four, or five years. I prefer to consider it year by year. This is football. Last summer was challenging for us, for Alex (Isak), but this is football.

“If you have a choice regarding your life, particularly concerning another team, you must consider everything carefully. I’m not inclined to declare, ‘Yes, I want to remain here for 10 years,’ but I am currently content here. I’m not contemplating any other team.”

Sandro Tonali’s agent has gone off-script.

His representative, Beppe Riso, has repeatedly hinted that Tonali is “very likely” to move to Arsenal or Manchester City. He stated to the Italian press: “Newcastle is already a Champions League club, yet it is now reported that Tonali is being pursued by elite clubs, those with aspirations to win the Premier League, like Arsenal or Manchester City.

“That was the goal from the time he arrived in England – to develop him into a star player. I believe he is one of the most valuable Italian players globally. I cannot say for certain whether he will join Manchester City or Arsenal.

However, it seems quite probable. Everyone is anticipating the World Cup; after that, numerous scenarios will emerge, but everything will commence post-World Cup.”
