Liverpool is set to invest £51 million to acquire a Bundesliga attacker this summer, according to reports.

The club is anticipated to enhance their squad after facing depth issues throughout the previous season, with midfield being a key area of interest for Andoni Iraola ahead of the Premier League’s commencement next month.

Over the past year, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch were heavily utilized by Arne Slot, yet it is fair to say that both the Argentine and the Dutchman did not perform at their peak.

Curtis Jones’ future is also uncertain, and in light of this, Bild has indicated that Liverpool has identified Mainz 05’s Kaishu Sano as a primary target for the transfer window, prepared to offer £51 million for his services.

Sano showcased impressive form for Japan during this summer’s World Cup, and although the team was eliminated by Brazil in the round of 32, the Bundesliga talent’s performances caught the attention of the Reds.

Sano is an ideal match for Iraola’s squad.

Considering that Andoni Iraola may continue with his tactical style from Bournemouth, implementing a high-intensity football approach, acquiring an energetic midfielder is crucial, especially with the team expected to compete nearly twice a week in the 2026/27 season.

In this context, Kaishu Sano would be an excellent addition. He possesses a keen understanding of the game, consistently wins the ball in midfield, and utilizes his speed and strength to advance aggressively into the attacking zone.

His ability to carry the ball forward would be particularly valuable, as Liverpool has lacked a player with such qualities, aside from Dominik Szoboszlai. Sano’s direct playing style will aid the Reds in generating more scoring opportunities and achieving greater consistency in their goal-scoring efforts.

At 25 years old, Sano is set to be a reliable long-term asset for Liverpool this season. Should their £51 million bid for the Japanese international persuade Mainz 05, it would represent a valuable addition at a relatively fair cost.
