Arsenal has submitted a bid for Bruno Guimaraes as Newcastle secures a winger from the Gunners.

The Gunners have initiated their first official approach for the Newcastle captain, while a young player moves in the opposite direction.

Newcastle has turned down Arsenal’s initial offer for Bruno Guimaraes.

A transfer saga that has persisted throughout the summer seems to be approaching a resolution, with both clubs now engaging directly regarding a deal for the Brazilian international.

As previously mentioned by Standard Sport, Arsenal has primarily been negotiating through intermediaries, who had earlier suggested that a transfer for Guimaraes could be feasible.

However, the Press Association reports that Arsenal’s first proposal for the Newcastle captain has been rejected, as there remains a significant gap in the valuation of the 28-year-old between the two clubs.

Nevertheless, the report indicates that Arsenal is unlikely to be dissuaded in their pursuit of Guimaraes, especially since the midfielder has expressed a desire to join the Premier League champions.

Importantly, the Magpies are willing to approve the transfer, but only if their conditions are satisfied, with a bid in the range of £75 million to £80 million likely needed to finalize the deal.

Unlike last year when Alexander Isak went on strike to facilitate a record transfer to Liverpool, Guimaraes is not expected to take such measures, as he was scheduled to join his Newcastle teammates at a pre-season training camp in La Manga on Monday.

He was set to reunite with the squad on Sunday after an extended break following his participation with Brazil in the World Cup 2026, although the club was accommodating of his arrival being delayed by 24 hours.

This summer has been challenging for Newcastle, having lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, along with the unexpected departure of head coach Eddie Howe.

Newcastle has successfully strengthened their first-team roster by signing Lukas Hornicek on Monday, marking him as their fifth acquisition of the summer. He joins fellow goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, winger Bazoumana Toure, and midfielders Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba.

Additionally, while Guimaraes is anticipated to depart Newcastle for Arsenal this summer, a promising young talent is making the move in the opposite direction.

Kyran Thompson, a 16-year-old winger who had been heavily linked with Tottenham, has joined St James’ Park after leaving the Gunners.
