Newcastle responds to reports that Arsenal has finalized the signing of Bruno Guimaraes for £80 million.

Sources from Newcastle United have downplayed recent claims made by a journalist regarding Arsenal’s completion of the £80 million transfer for Bruno Guimaraes.

Arsenal is eager to acquire Guimaraes from Newcastle during the summer transfer window and has already seen several offers for the Brazilian midfielder rejected.

Guimaraes himself is interested in joining Arsenal and has reportedly agreed to personal terms with the Premier League champions.

On July 31, there were assertions that Arsenal had scheduled a medical examination for Guimaraes, suggesting that a deal between the Gunners and Newcastle was already in place.

Nevertheless, Newcastle has consistently asserted that Guimaraes is not available for transfer this summer.

A recent report from ESPN claims that Arsenal is set to pay Newcastle a total of £80 million for the Brazilian midfielder.

The report indicates that Arsenal ‘completed the signing’ of Guimaraes on Friday night for the total fee of £80 million.

Arsenal, who reached the Champions League final last season, is expected to pay an initial £70 million for Guimaraes, along with an additional £10 million in performance-related bonuses.

ESPN further noted: ‘Bruno Guimaraes’ (long-term) contract signing with the London club is anticipated to occur this weekend in London.’

Newcastle refutes any agreement with Arsenal regarding Bruno Guimaraes.

However, local media in Newcastle has denied that any agreement exists with Arsenal concerning the transfer of the 28-year-old.

Lee Ryder, the Chief Newcastle United writer for The Chronicle, reported that a final decision on Guimaraes’ sale will only be made after discussions with the incoming new manager, Matthias Jaissle.

Ryder posted on X at 1:48 PM on August 1: ‘New claims of an £80.4 million agreement regarding Bruno Guimaraes and #arsenal.

‘Told this isn’t agreed and focus is on getting Matthias Jaissle unveiled.

‘There is no change on Bruno with no official approach from the Gunners.

With a new head coach appointed, he is expected to have a conversation with Bruno, as previously reported by @ChronicleNUFC.
