Uncovered: A 43-year-old aspires to become the next manager of Newcastle amid increasing pressure on Eddie Howe.

Andoni Iraola has expressed interest in taking over as Newcastle United manager if Eddie Howe is dismissed in the near future.

Last week, Iraola announced his departure from Bournemouth after three seasons, seeking a new challenge.

His team, the Cherries, defeated Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday, intensifying the pressure on Howe, who has faced growing discontent from fans and may be relieved of his position before the next season begins.

As I disclosed in the latest episode of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Iraola is willing to step in for Howe at St James’ Park this summer.

It is unlikely that Newcastle will appoint a new manager before the season concludes, as Howe is expected to be given an opportunity to improve their performance and secure a spot in European competition.

Andoni Iraola may position himself as a candidate for the Newcastle role.

Iraola has been associated with several potential job openings following his exit from Bournemouth, including positions at Manchester United and Athletic Club, but he currently does not have a new position confirmed.

Newcastle’s management will likely have been impressed by his team’s victory at St James’ Park over the weekend, and he could be a target for the managerial position if Howe is dismissed soon.

During the Transfer Insider podcast, I mentioned: “Iraola would be an excellent choice for Newcastle. He has demonstrated his capabilities at Bournemouth.

“It’s a position he would be keen on if it were to become available.”

Howe is keen for Jacob Murphy to extend his contract despite some concerns.

One of the criticisms directed at Howe by fans is that he shows favoritism within the Newcastle squad, with Murphy frequently cited as an example.

The 31-year-old has had difficulty recapturing his impressive form from the previous season in 2025-26, managing only three goals and one assist in 28 league appearances thus far.

His future at Tyneside may depend on the managerial situation, with sources recently informing Football Insider that Howe wishes for Murphy to remain and sign a new contract as he approaches the end of his current deal.

He continues to believe that the winger will have a significant role in the future, but Howe might not remain at St James’ longer than Murphy, and a new manager could have different plans regarding his future.
