“If Leeds get…” – Alan Pardew makes a bold statement regarding Leeds’ relegation on talkSPORT
Leeds United’s 3-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday has created an eight-point cushion above Tottenham in the relegation zone, with only five matches remaining.
Meanwhile, Spurs dropped two vital points after allowing a late equalizer against Brighton and are still searching for their first Premier League win of 2026.
Leeds comfortably defeated Wolves, and when combined with last week’s triumph over Manchester United, they now appear almost certain to avoid relegation.
Daniel Farke has urged his squad to maintain their focus and not become complacent, emphasizing that Tottenham can still make a late charge while Nottingham Forest and West Ham continue to battle.
However, Alan Pardew believes Leeds are nearly safe and have effectively secured their place in the Premier League.
Alan Pardew asserts Leeds’ relegation status
Nottingham Forest’s victory on Sunday further complicated the situation for Tottenham, and West Ham is set to face Crystal Palace later tonight.
Nonetheless, Alan Pardew has concentrated on Leeds and their fight for survival, acknowledging that they no longer resemble a team at risk of falling into the bottom three.
He stated that one more win from their remaining five league matches will guarantee their Premier League status, if they haven’t already achieved it with six points from their last two games.
Pardew commented on talkSPORT while analyzing the survival race: “Let’s start with Leeds United; they currently have 39 points.
“Just two weeks ago, we were saying Leeds were in serious trouble; that is no longer the case.
“They have positioned themselves excellently. They have nine wins; typically, ten wins secure safety.
“That would bring them to 42 points, and if they achieve that 10th win, I believe they are safe.”
Daniel Farke has made it clear he doesn’t want his Leeds players to get ahead of themselves, highlighting that the season has been anything but straightforward. Nevertheless, it is undeniable that they are now in a significantly stronger position.
They return to Premier League action on Wednesday evening to face Bournemouth, before turning their attention to an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea next Sunday.
With matches against Tottenham, Burnley, and West Ham still ahead, Leeds are getting closer to securing their position in the top division for another season.
Farke is managing expectations carefully, yet there is a subtle confidence growing that staying up is definitely achievable.
