Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Leeds United is progressing with their next transfer, indicating that a medical is in the works.

Leeds is just days away from their next signing, as a player has been reported absent from the team’s dressing room.

Crysencio Summerville’s return to Leeds could be imminent.

Examining the list of Leeds United’s record sales reveals that leaving Elland Road doesn’t always lead to better opportunities.

Raphinha, who has reached new heights at Barcelona, is somewhat of an exception; however, many of the club’s recent high-profile exits have struggled to adapt to their new environments.

Kalvin Phillips stands out as a prime example, while Archie Gray is still striving to secure a consistent position at Tottenham Hotspur, despite being highly regarded by manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Additionally, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville have yet to achieve the anticipated success since departing in 2024.

Leeds came very close to re-signing Summerville this summer.

After making a significant impact in the Premier League during the 2022/23 season, Summerville truly shone in the following campaign after Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.

Under Daniel Farke’s management, the dynamic winger was outstanding that season alongside Rutter, netting 19 goals as the Whites nearly clinched promotion.

The Dutch player also contributed nine assists and created 17 ‘big chances’, ranking third in the league for successful dribbles and fourth for key passes.

A substantial £25m transfer to West Ham United followed that summer, but Summerville found himself sidelined during his first year, starting only seven league matches for the Hammers.

It could be argued that it was only this calendar year that he truly left his mark at the London Stadium, with all five of his Premier League goals from last season occurring in 2026, despite the east London team facing relegation.

This descent into the second tier ignited speculation about a possible return to Leeds, although no solid offers materialized, with Manchester United also vying for his signature.

A stellar World Cup performance further elevated his profile, yet despite the buzz surrounding a high-profile transfer, the 24-year-old opted for the lucrative opportunities in Saudi Arabia, which reflects poorly on the current state of the sport and represents a significant loss of his potential.

Ultimately, that choice rests with him, while Leeds still faces the challenge of filling the gap left by a truly dynamic attacking player at Elland Road.

How Leeds could finally find a replacement for Summerville this month

Farke and his team do have players like Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James at their disposal, but both were largely sidelined last season, collectively starting only ten matches.

Harry Wilson has been brought into the fold, but the Welshman’s strengths lie more in creativity and finishing rather than physicality.

In terms of a player who could effectively take over Summerville’s role, Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk seems to be a strong candidate, as the Ukrainian is expected to leave Stamford Bridge on loan before the transfer deadline.

There have been more ambitious connections to players like Rafael Leao, but Mudryk appears to be a tangible target, with TEAMtalk indicating that Leeds is still in discussions with Chelsea regarding a potential agreement.

An initial loan proposal has already been rejected, but talks are ongoing as they seek to secure regular playing time for the 25-year-old, who has been out for an extended period due to a doping investigation.
