Rapid developments as player heads for Newcastle United medical.

Newcastle United’s pursuit of Ousmane Diabaté has progressed significantly, just hours after discussions regarding the young talent were disclosed.

The 18-year-old has now made his way to England to complete a medical examination with the Magpies.

This information comes from Turkish journalist Reşat Can Özbudak, who initially reported on Newcastle’s interest on Tuesday alongside Fotospor.

His latest update directly references that report, which indicated that Newcastle had initiated talks for the Gençlerbirliği midfielder.

Diabaté travels for Newcastle medical

Özbudak now confirms that Diabaté has arrived in England for his medical. He promises to provide further details on the situation, but this development alone indicates that Newcastle has acted swiftly.

When the news first emerged, there was no clarity on the progress of those discussions.

A trip for his medical less than a day later presents a much clearer picture. It also diminishes the reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford.

Fotospor had identified both London clubs as serious contenders for the Guinea international. Fenerbahçe has also been mentioned as a potential suitor. Tottenham’s interest has been ongoing for several months, with Diabaté’s representatives confirming in May that talks had occurred with Spurs.

Ultimately, Newcastle seems to have outpaced the competition.

A swift move for the young talent

Diabaté only joined Gençlerbirliği from Guinean club Académie SOAR earlier this year.

Since then, he has made seven appearances for the Turkish club’s first team and another ten for their U19 squad. His development also led to a senior debut for Guinea in June.

Gençlerbirliği acquired him for free, although Académie SOAR retained a 40% sell-on clause. This arrangement gives the Turkish club a reason to seek a substantial fee.

No financial figure has yet been associated with Newcastle’s move. Diabaté has three years left on his contract, meaning Gençlerbirliği is not under immediate pressure to sell.

The situation has progressed rapidly, however. Unless there is an issue with the examination or the final aspects of the deal, it appears that Newcastle United will soon acquire a new player.
