“They aspire to be like Leeds” – West Ham icon claims Leeds have ‘shamed’ relegation competitors

Leeds United currently hold an eight-point advantage over the relegation zone in the Premier League standings, yet the 0-0 stalemate at Selhurst Park on Monday means West Ham remains just two points ahead of Tottenham in the league.

West Ham had a prime opportunity to apply significant pressure on Tottenham and extend their lead over the relegation zone to four points. However, they were unable to secure a victory against a Crystal Palace team that participated in European competition last week.

Despite accumulating 39 points, Leeds are not yet mathematically safe. Nevertheless, expectations are low for the Whites to face relegation after winning their last two Premier League matches.

Former West Ham forward Dean Ashton has assessed the recent outcomes and made a bold prediction regarding which teams he believes will avoid relegation and which are likely to drop down.

The ex-West Ham player is fully confident in Leeds’ survival.

Although Leeds have not yet reached the conventional 40-point threshold often linked to Premier League safety, they currently seem to be in a secure position away from danger.

Ashton asserted that Leeds will not be relegated and have done enough to secure another season in the Premier League.

West Ham’s draw on Monday night likely provided some encouragement for Tottenham. However, the former Hammer believes Spurs have set themselves a daunting task, and he does not foresee them remaining in the Premier League.

He also emphasized that Leeds have highlighted the vulnerabilities of their relegation rivals this season.

“Leeds possess it. All those teams at the bottom aspire to be like Leeds. They have truly outperformed them. I believe 39 points will suffice for survival,” Ashton stated on Sky Sports.

“I think Leeds’ victory over Wolves on Saturday will be sufficient to ensure their safety now.

“I could be mistaken, but I believe it’s an incredibly challenging endeavor, with so few matches remaining, for Tottenham to accumulate that many points under such pressure.”

Tottenham will now be hoping the Whites can secure their safety soon.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds team appears to be nearly secure now, likely just one victory away from mathematically ensuring their survival.

If they achieve this in the upcoming matches and subsequently defeat Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final next Sunday, their attention may shift by the time they head to face Tottenham Hotspur next month.

This is precisely the situation Spurs will be hoping for, with Leeds already safe and an FA Cup final on the horizon, as it could lead Farke to make changes to his lineup for that encounter.

Leeds will play Burnley at home before traveling to north London, and a win in that match should effectively seal their survival.

By the time they meet Spurs, Leeds might have nothing at stake in the match, which could work to Tottenham’s advantage if it allows their opponents to be a bit more relaxed and somewhat distracted by the upcoming Wembley showdown.
