Report: Arsenal has initiated discussions to acquire a ‘frightening’ winger, prepared to propose £53m along with a substantial salary.

Berta is preparing a £53m offer to secure an ‘electric’ winger for Arsenal, who could become their own version of Wirtz – opinion.

With Andrea Berta now at the helm of Arsenal’s transfer operations, having taken over from Edu a few months back, the club’s approach to transfers this summer feels notably different.

In fact, it’s quite a strategic move. Berta is not putting all his resources into a single deal. Instead, he is pursuing multiple opportunities before deciding which one is the most advantageous to finalize.

According to reports, the Gunners have been in talks regarding potential signings for both RB Leipzig’s forward Benjamin Sesko and Sporting’s prolific scorer, Viktor Gyokeres.

The latest update indicates that the Swedish player is now ‘dreaming’ of a transfer to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

However, acquiring a striker is not Arsenal’s sole focus during this transfer window. They are also in need of a winger.

Arsenal’s quest for a new winger this summer.

This is a hectic period for Berta, and if he successfully revamps Arsenal’s attacking lineup, he will quickly become a fan favorite in north London.

On the list of targets for the wings is Real Madrid’s winger Rodrygo, with reports suggesting that Arsenal has engaged in discussions to bring the Brazilian to the Emirates.

If that deal falls through, they might redirect their efforts towards Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams once more.

The Spaniard, who netted a goal in the Euro 2024 final last summer, caught the attention of the Gunners during that tournament, but despite the winger’s release clause, they did not pursue a deal at that time.

A year later, they could renew their interest. Reports from Spain indicate that while Williams is inclined to remain in Spain, where Barcelona is keenly interested, Bayern Munich and Arsenal are also eyeing the 22-year-old.

Williams is ‘interested’ in the prospect of joining Barcelona, but Bayern and the Gunners are now ‘prepared to meet’ his affordable £53m release clause.

They are also ready to present a lucrative salary offer to entice him away from the allure of Camp Nou.

Why Williams might be the solution for Arsenal in place of Florian Wirtz.

During the initial ten days of the summer transfer window, prior to its temporary closure due to the Club World Cup, the focus was heavily on Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool has made a bold move to take advantage of their title-winning season by shattering a British transfer record.

Wirtz is set to join from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal valued at £116.5m. As former Leverkusen striker Patrick Helmes stated, he is “probably the best midfielder in the world,” but that doesn’t imply he can’t excel in other positions.

The German primarily plays as a no.10, similar to Mesut Ozil or Kevin De Bruyne, yet he is also quite capable of playing on the wings.

At just 22 years old, which coincidentally matches Williams’ age, the Spaniard could be the Wirtz-like acquisition that Arsenal desperately needs to progress.

If there was one area of vulnerability at Anfield this season, it was the no.10 position.

Dominik Szoboszlai is certainly competent, but his goal-scoring prowess has been under scrutiny, having netted only six times in the Premier League during the 2024/25 season.

However, Arne Slot has already addressed that issue; Wirtz scored ten Bundesliga goals and found the back of the net 16 times across all competitions.

Thus, Arsenal must now tackle their own shortcomings, particularly on Williams’ left side.

Bukayo Saka consistently delivers results on the right, and regardless of Mikel Arteta’s concerns about lacking a striker, Kai Havertz was on track for a 20-goal season before his injury, while Mikel Merino netted six in 12 appearances as a centre-forward.

The left wing has arguably shown the most significant disparity in quality. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard each scored eight goals in the league this season.

Their primary challenge is consistency, and to be fair, one could argue that Williams shares this issue as well.

The Spain international scored 11 goals in all competitions, with only five coming from LaLiga. Based on that, one might question where the improvement is coming from.

The figures presented below indicate that Williams would undoubtedly represent a considerable enhancement in various aspects.

He excels as a more consistent dribbler, and the high volume of shot-creating actions implies he could pose a significant threat in the Premier League.

Moreover, as noted by Bilbao’s official communications, Williams is regarded as “one of the best wingers in the world.” He notably demonstrated this during Euro 2024 with Spain, flourishing in a much stronger team.

He netted two goals and provided one assist across six matches in the European Championship, and in the recent Nations League, the young winger scored two goals in four appearances, along with a single assist.

This is a player whose performance could reach new levels in a club like Arsenal.

He is already considered an “electric” talent, according to content creator Statman Dave, and with Arteta’s history of nurturing young talent, Williams would undoubtedly excel at Arsenal.

Similar to Wirtz at Anfield, the young Spaniard could address one of the Gunners’ most pressing issues in their attacking lineup.
