Viktor Gyökeres set to reject Manchester United in favor of a ‘dream’ move to Arsenal.

Sporting striker aims to compete in the Champions League.

Viktor Gyokeres is said to consider Arsenal a ‘dream’ transfer compared to Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta is believed to favor Benjamin Sesko.

Manchester United’s efforts to sign Viktor Gyökeres seem to be failing after the Sporting striker expressed that joining Arsenal would be a ‘dream’.

United had preliminary talks about acquiring the 27-year-old, with Ruben Amorim focused on enhancing the squad. However, it has been reported that the player’s agents have informed United of his disinterest in joining the club.

Instead, Gyökeres is thought to prefer Arsenal as his top choice since they will participate in the Champions League next season.

United is undergoing a rebuilding phase and will not be competing in Europe next season after finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing in the Europa League final. Although they still hope to pursue the transfer, it remains a long shot.

It is uncertain whether Mikel Arteta considers the Swede as his primary target for a center-forward, as he is believed to favor the 22-year-old Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. Sporting values Gyökeres at approximately €80m (£68m).

Viktor Gyokeres provides a one-word response regarding his Arsenal transfer as Manchester United’s decision is finalized.

Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly made a choice about his future amidst transfer rumors linking him to Arsenal and Manchester United.

Sky Sports reported on Tuesday that United has approached Gyokeres as they aim to strengthen their attacking options this summer.

The Swedish international shares a strong bond with United manager Ruben Amorim from their time in Portugal, which many at Old Trafford hope could influence his decision towards the club.

However, The Guardian states that the player’s representatives have informed United of his lack of interest in joining the club.

Instead, Gyokeres is said to see Arsenal as his preferred choice since they will be competing in the Champions League next season.

Gyokeres has emerged as one of Europe’s leading strikers in recent years, scoring an impressive 97 goals in 102 appearances since his move from Coventry City to Liga Portugal in July 2023.

The forward played a key role by contributing 39 of those goals in this season’s league campaign, helping Sporting achieve a remarkable league and cup double.

Despite having a release clause of approximately £84 million (€100 million), the 27-year-old reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting this summer for offers above £58 million (€70 million).

However, Sporting’s president, Frederico Varandas, revealed on Wednesday that no guarantees were made to Gyokeres regarding a less expensive exit this summer.

“It was agreed that Sporting would not enforce his release clause at the end of the season, particularly since he would be turning 27,” Varandas stated.

“We were aware of Viktor’s aspiration to join a club where he could compete for the Champions League, and we acted with common sense.

“We assured that we would not demand €100 million. Sporting operates with common sense and honors its commitments.

“The president of Sporting mentioned that the club would not insist on the clause and that we would adjust the fee based on Viktor’s performance, as he was one of the top players to grace the pitch in Portugal.
