Breakthrough: Arsenal is preparing to make an offer for the £85m “monster”, who could be their own Wirtz – opinion.

Although the transfer window has temporarily closed, it appears that Arsenal is beginning to lag behind their competitors.

For instance, Manchester City has already acquired Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rayan Ait-Nouri, and they seem poised to add more players.

However, perhaps the most concerning news, particularly regarding the Gunners’ prospects in the Premier League for the upcoming season, is Liverpool’s acquisition of Florian Wirtz for £116m.

The German player exemplifies what a statement signing should be, but on a more optimistic note, recent reports have connected Arsenal with a player who could serve as their own equivalent to the international star.

Arsenal transfer news

While the Gunners have yet to finalize any official signings this summer, they have been associated with several potentially transformative talents, including Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo.

Eze reportedly has a release clause of approximately £68m in his contract with Crystal Palace, and although that is a significant amount, it would be a worthwhile investment for a Premier League-proven forward who netted 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 43 appearances this season.

Similarly, while Rodrygo may demand a staggering £84m this summer, his impressive record of 24 goal involvements this season and his history of winning major trophies make him an excellent addition to the Gunners’ lineup.

As for Arsenal’s answer to Wirtz, it seems that Benjamin Sesko is the target.

A recent report from Football Transfers indicates that Arsenal continues to show strong interest in the RB Leipzig talent.

In fact, the report goes further, stating that the Gunners have achieved a ‘breakthrough’ in negotiations and are anticipated to submit an offer of €100m early next week, which translates to about £85m.

Securing Sesko would signify a tremendous vote of confidence in the young striker. Given his talent and potential, Arsenal should prioritize this transfer and complete it promptly, as Sesko could become their equivalent of Wirtz.

Why Sesko could be Arsenal’s Wirtz

To begin with, it’s important to note that the two players are not directly comparable in terms of their positions. While Wirtz can operate in several roles, he primarily functions as an attacking midfielder, whereas Sesko is a striker.

However, their positional differences are not the main reason why Sesko could be Arsenal’s version of the German player.

The first significant reason is that, similar to Liverpool’s new playmaker, the Slovenian international possesses the potential to be a transformative addition to the Gunners.

For instance, despite being only 22 years old, the former Salzburg talent managed to score 21 goals and provide six assists in 45 matches, accumulating a total of 3258 minutes on the pitch.

This means that the Radeče-born “monster,” as described by esteemed data analyst Ben Mattinson, averaged a goal contribution every 1.66 games, or every 120.66 minutes, even while playing for a relatively underperforming Leipzig team.

Just imagine the impact he could have under Arteta, with Bukayo Saka positioned to his right, a new left-winger on the opposite flank, and a revitalized Martin Odegaard behind him.

Additionally, despite his towering height of 6 foot 5, the 41-capped giant is remarkably quick, reaching speeds of 35.69 km/h. Furthermore, a glance at his highlight reels reveals his impressive technical skills with the ball.

Finally, beyond the ways in which Sesko could elevate Arteta’s squad, he would also be joining for a significant fee and from the Bundesliga, much like Wirtz.

In conclusion, even though the financial commitment is greater than many anticipated, Arsenal should make every effort to secure the Leipzig star this summer.
