Viktor Gyokeres’ transfer has been finalized, with the £84m winger signing – a dream conclusion to the summer window for Arsenal.

In the latest Arsenal transfer updates, football.london examines what would constitute a perfect ending to the transfer window for the Gunners.

Arsenal aims to finalize five new signings in the upcoming 11 weeks, as the summer transfer window has reopened.

The trading period was temporarily halted last Tuesday due to the Club World Cup, despite having only been open since early June.

During this pause, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City all announced new signings, while the Gunners were unable to make any moves.

Although a deal for Martin Zubimendi to transfer from Real Sociedad has been in a strong position since February, some final details still require agreement.

There were also worries that Real Madrid might attempt a late hijack, but the prevailing belief is that Zubimendi will report to Arsenal for pre-season.

However, an official announcement may be delayed until July for accounting purposes.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is also anticipated to join from Chelsea, with his £5 million release clause needing activation.

With two players expected to be signed in positions identified as needing reinforcement, the focus for the next two-and-a-half months will shift elsewhere.

football.london reports that Arsenal is looking to acquire a striker, a wide forward, and a defender.

For the latter position, Dean Huijsen was their preferred target, but he chose to move to Real Madrid from Bournemouth.

The Gunners have maintained a long-standing interest in Ajax’s Jorrel Hato and are now believed to be actively pursuing his signature alongside Chelsea.

There is no urgent need to sign a defender given the current options, especially since two significant additions in the attacking line are clearly the priority.

Numerous strikers are available on the market and likely to transfer this summer, with Arsenal closely monitoring Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Currently, Andrea Berta seems to be primarily focused on negotiations between Arsenal and Leipzig. Initially, it appeared that he would be the pricier acquisition, but that no longer seems to be the situation.

It was thought that a gentleman’s agreement existed between Gyokeres and Sporting, with £60 million (€70m) considered sufficient for his departure. However, the Portuguese champions are now asking for £67.4 million (€80m) to let him go.

Sesko’s release clause is much closer to that figure, and if both players are available at a similar cost, Arsenal will have a significant decision to make.

The Slovenia international is younger and has excelled in a more competitive league, yet Gyokeres’ remarkable statistics are hard to overlook.

Scoring 52 goals in the 2024/25 season, regardless of the league, is an extraordinary achievement, and he clearly represents a finished product. If this situation had arisen two years ago, opting for Sesko would have made perfect sense, but Arsenal’s immediate need for success suggests that signing Gyokeres should be the priority.

Additionally, acquiring a left winger is another objective for the club, with Nico Williams and Rodrygo being the primary contenders.

Although the Real Madrid player does not seem to have a defined role under new manager Xabi Alonso, he would require a substantial investment.

On the other hand, Williams is also sought after by Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Consequently, Arsenal might be better off pursuing Rafael Leao from AC Milan.

The Italian club is currently asking for £84 million (€100m) for his transfer, but the absence of Champions League football next season could lead him to seek a move or alter their position.

At 26 years old, he has the potential to be a valuable addition for Arsenal, possibly serving as the final piece needed to achieve silverware.
