The Premier League has made an announcement regarding the incident between Leeds and Wolves today.

Officials from the Premier League have clarified the reasoning behind the penalty awarded to Dominic Calvert-Lewin for Leeds United against Wolves.

Leeds made significant progress towards Premier League survival with a 3-0 victory over Wolves at Elland Road on Saturday.

Just five days after their remarkable win against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Leeds scored two quick goals within the first 20 minutes, courtesy of James Justin and Noah Okafor.

Leeds did not need to exert themselves much against the struggling Wolves, as they extended their lead to 3-0 deep into stoppage time of the second half with Calvert-Lewin’s penalty.

Interestingly, towards the conclusion of Leeds’ match against Wolves, Premier League officials issued a statement explaining the rationale behind the penalty awarded to Daniel Farke’s team.

The referee’s decision to award a penalty and issue a yellow card to Hugo Bueno was reviewed and validated by VAR, which determined that he had tripped Calvert-Lewin while attempting to play the ball.

Explanation of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty

As the game was nearing its end, Leeds secured their third and final goal, adding some polish to the scoreline.

Calvert-Lewin proved to be a constant threat to the Wolves defense, and the 29-year-old was eager to score and break his Premier League goal drought.

He achieved this in the 95th minute when Wolves’ Hugo Bueno fouled him in the penalty area following a strong play by Wilfried Gnonto.

Shortly after referee Farai Hallam signaled for the penalty, the Premier League Match Centre shared the explanation for the decision.

The referee’s decision to award a penalty and issue a yellow card to Hugo Bueno was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, which concluded that he had tripped Calvert-Lewin while trying to play the ball.

To the relief of the majority of fans at Elland Road, Calvert-Lewin successfully converted the penalty, marking his 11th goal in the Premier League this season.

Leeds can look up rather than down.

While it may not have been aesthetically pleasing at times, Leeds’ victory over Wolves places them on the brink of remaining in the Premier League for another season.

Currently, they hold a nine-point advantage over the relegation zone, although this could shrink to seven if Tottenham secures a win against Brighton later on Saturday, with West Ham sitting at 32 points in 17th place.

However, the fact that Leeds has achieved back-to-back wins in the league for the first time this season is a significant positive.

😎 THREE GOALS. THREE POINTS. REMARKABLE.

Additionally, they have an FA Cup semi-final to anticipate against Chelsea at Wembley next Sunday, marking their first appearance in the last four of the competition since 1987.

They had not defeated Man United at Old Trafford since 1981 before their victory on Monday. Will they be able to create more history? Given their current form, they certainly have a strong chance.
