Premier League releases an official statement following the incident involving Newcastle United against Bournemouth.

The reaction at St James’ Park indicates potential trouble for Eddie Howe after the latest home defeat.

Things have gone from bad to worse as the struggling Newcastle United succumb to Bournemouth.

William Osula netted his sixth goal of the season for Newcastle United during the match against Bournemouth at St James’ Park.

The Danish striker equalized after Marcus Tavernier’s first-half goal with a skillful run and impressive footwork inside the penalty area, slotting the ball home to make it 1-1. However, the offside flag was raised promptly, suggesting Osula was in an offside position when he received the initial pass.

Initially believed to be played by Bruno Guimaraes, a VAR review revealed that it was actually Bournemouth’s Evanilson who played the ball, resulting in the goal being awarded.

In a brief statement, the Premier League’s Match Centre clarified the situation.

It stated: “68’ VAR OVERTURN After VAR review, the referee reversed the original offside decision against Osula. Referee announcement: “After review, there is clear evidence that Bournemouth number 9 plays the ball forward. Final decision is goal.”

Newcastle’s celebrations were short-lived as Bournemouth regained the lead through Adrien Truffert in the final moments of the match.

This result seemed to seal Newcastle’s fate, marking their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions, with a challenging match against Premier League leaders Arsenal on the horizon.
