Official: Liverpool poised to welcome a remarkable £60m new signing on July 1

Liverpool is anticipated to be active in the transfer market this summer to address various issues, even after investing £460m in 2025.

Arne Slot has been dismissed from his position at Liverpool and has been succeeded by former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. The Spaniard faces the daunting challenge of bringing the club back to the heights achieved under Jurgen Klopp and during Slot’s initial season.

The positive aspect for Iraola is that, despite some evident shortcomings in the overall composition of the Liverpool squad, he is stepping into a team filled with genuinely exciting talents.

Florian Wirtz was acquired for £116m last summer but did not meet expectations under Slot, who appeared to misinterpret the type of player provided by FSG. The German is expected to shine for his country at the World Cup, which should highlight his capabilities more effectively than Liverpool managed to.

Hugo Ekitike, who unfortunately suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury, was brought in for £79m from Eintracht Frankfurt, yet he was one of the standout players of the previous season.

Alexander Isak faced a similar setback to Ekitike, breaking his leg against Spurs in late December. However, his £125m transfer fee remains Liverpool’s highest by approximately £50m. He is anticipated to return fit and ready for the next season, having scored a stunning goal in a pre-World Cup friendly for Sweden.

Liverpool is set to welcome Jeremy Jacquet on July 1 in a £60m transfer aimed at the future.

Jacquet is highly regarded by Liverpool, as demonstrated by the substantial fee allocated for a teenager. The 19-year-old impressed scouts in France with his performances for Rennes, placing him alongside Giovanni Leoni as one of the top U21 centre-backs globally.

Dominic King, discussing Liverpool’s high regard for Jacquet on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast in April, elaborated on the club’s positive assessment ahead of his forthcoming arrival at the AXA Training Centre.

He states: “I believe Liverpool requires ambitious players. I think this renewal is essential. Therefore, they acquired Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, as he is a young talent eager to grow and succeed.

“They consider this acquisition to be a significant achievement. They are aware that many clubs across Europe were interested in him, especially Chelsea.

“However, he opted for Liverpool because he was convinced about the opportunities for his development there. I think this is the kind of profile they will focus on.”
