Newcastle initiates discussions with both the player and his agents regarding a £30m forward, who is being pushed out.

With just a week remaining before the Premier League season kicks off, Newcastle United’s roster still lacks considerable quality.

Although Bouzamana Toure, Aladji Bamba, Lukas Hornicek, Sean Steur, and young defender Ewen Jaouen have joined the squad, Matthias Jaissle acknowledges that further reinforcements are necessary.

The situation is unlikely to improve as the season begins. Joelinton’s injury has exacerbated the midfield dilemma for the Magpies, heightening the urgency to finalize a deal for Joao Palhinha.

Additionally, there are ongoing issues in the attacking department. Jaissle’s team has struggled to score more than one goal in each of their four friendly matches under his management. They are in dire need of attacking options, making players like Christopher Nkunku increasingly appealing.

The former Chelsea player appears to be leaving Italy, and a return to the Premier League may be imminent. During his time in England, he netted six goals in 38 Premier League appearances before departing amid turmoil at Stamford Bridge.

A comeback to the Premier League would provide Nkunku with an opportunity for redemption and a chance to regain the form he displayed at RB Leipzig during the 2022/23 season.

He is not a player to be dismissed just yet. The 28-year-old contributed to 11 goals across all competitions last season—more than Anthony Elanga and only five short of Nick Woltemade’s record.

With an expanded role, the Frenchman could emerge as the key player that Newcastle urgently requires in the absence of Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes.

Newcastle opens negotiations with agents to acquire Christopher Nkunku.

According to Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo, as reported by Sport Witness, Newcastle has begun talks to secure Nkunku from AC Milan this summer. The Magpies are directly engaging with the Frenchman’s representatives and have also reached out to Milan regarding a potential transfer.

The Italian club has instructed Nkunku to gather his belongings and depart, as new manager Ruben Amorim has determined he is no longer needed. Milan’s discarded player could swiftly turn into Newcastle’s asset if they outmaneuver Aston Villa to secure a deal at the forward’s €35m (£30m) asking price.

For Nkunku, the opportunity to return to the Premier League is one he should embrace wholeheartedly. If he chooses St James’ Park, he will find immediate prospects. Unlike his experiences at Chelsea and Milan, there is a strong possibility that Nkunku would become the focal point of Newcastle’s attack.

While the transfer won’t be at a discounted rate, after offloading Guimaraes, Gordon, and Sandro Tonali earlier this summer, Newcastle should find £30m comfortably within their budget this month.
