Liverpool is reportedly contemplating a £40m offer to secure Bournemouth’s standout player, Alex Scott, who is also being pursued by Manchester United.

On Thursday night, Liverpool announced the hiring of new head coach Andoni Iraola, who has signed a two-year deal to succeed former manager Arne Slot.

This marks a significant advancement for Iraola, who can win over Liverpool fans by implementing a more appealing style of play compared to what they experienced under Slot.

The Reds are anticipated to be proactive in the transfer market this summer to enhance Iraola’s chances of success, with Scott being highlighted as an ideal signing due to their previous collaboration at Bournemouth.

The 22-year-old has just completed a breakout season with Bournemouth in 2025/26 and is attracting interest from several top clubs ahead of the upcoming season.

Earlier this week, we reported that Scott is currently hesitating on signing a new contract, but it has since been revealed that the club remains optimistic about persuading the center-midfielder to agree to a new deal.

However, interest from other clubs could complicate matters. Journalist Jamie Dickenson has stated on X that Liverpool is ‘considering a £40m bid’ for Scott and ‘could make him Iraola’s first signing’.

The potential deal for Scott depends on two factors, as he makes predictions about Iraola and Liverpool’s future.

The same report indicates that Bournemouth values Scott at £60m, meaning a transfer to Anfield hinges on Liverpool either meeting this price or negotiating a compromise with their rivals.

Additionally, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are ‘also monitoring’ Scott, so Liverpool will need to overcome competition from these teams to secure the midfielder.

Interestingly, Scott has shared his insights on what Liverpool should ‘expect from Iraola’ as they head into the next season.

‘What can Liverpool expect from Iraola? He is undoubtedly a great manager,’ Scott remarked.

“You can see the progress we’ve made as a club at Bournemouth over the three seasons he was with us.

“I believe our pressing out of possession is quite aggressive, perhaps reminiscent of the early Klopp teams at Liverpool, characterized by that intense aggressiveness and pressing from the wingers.

“I would say he embodies that style. Liverpool supporters should certainly be thrilled. He has contributed significantly to my development personally.

Regarding the advancements he has made this season, Scott added: “I have made significant improvements this season, both out of possession and in possession. I feel that I have earned his trust.

“Defensively, during my first two seasons, I wasn’t at the level required to compete in the Premier League, and that was a lesson I learned from the players in front of me on the team.

“However, he placed his trust in me from the very first game of the season, and I ended up starting and playing 34 full matches this year, which is something I take great pride in.

“The manager has been incredible for me, guiding me in my development, both offensively and defensively, encouraging me to be more aggressive, and that is why I featured in most games this season.
