He aspires to take the Newcastle position: PIF might recruit an “elite” 4-2-3-1 manager who could become their own Arteta.

He seeks the role: Newcastle could appoint their own Arteta in an “elite” manager.

Eddie Howe has certainly put in a commendable effort at Newcastle United, hasn’t he?

Five years ago, when the initial PIF takeover began in April 2021, few could have predicted the Magpies soaring into the Champions League (twice in three years) and defeating Liverpool to claim the Carabao Cup.

To borrow a phrase often associated with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, he has transformed skeptics into believers, showcasing himself as a clever tactician and an outstanding project manager, with a strong and unwavering focus.

Nevertheless, Howe has taken this team as far as he is able. United have been stagnating for too long, with their recent Premier League loss to Bournemouth leaving them in 14th place.

The likelihood of competing in Europe next season is low, and it may be an opportune moment for PIF to consider a change in management. However, finding the right successor will be a challenge.

A Premier League coach is interested in the Newcastle position.

While some believe Howe deserves to continue leading Newcastle for many more years, given the credit he has built up over recent seasons, the truth is that football operates differently, and with key players expected to depart this summer, a fresh start might be the most effective path forward.

If Howe is dismissed during the forthcoming end-of-season review, numerous managers have been mentioned as potential replacements. Among them are Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini, both of whom are highly regarded in their generation and have won Premier League titles, yet their strategies and tactics may be seen as outdated, and United should aim for a more progressive appointment.

Newcastle must prioritize Andoni Iraola, who will become a free agent this summer when his contract with Bournemouth ends. As reported by Football Insider, the 43-year-old is interested in the Magpies position if it becomes available.

Both Manchester United and Athletic Bilbao have been mentioned as potential options for the Spaniard, highlighting the urgency for PIF, who cannot afford to mishandle their choice for Howe’s successor, should he be dismissed.

Why Iraola could be the ideal replacement for Howe

With Bournemouth confirming that Marco Rose will take over from Iraola at the Vitality Stadium, it is evident that Iraola is set to secure a prominent position ahead of the 2025/26 season.

He will have numerous opportunities to choose from, but Newcastle could represent the perfect opportunity for a young coach who has already exceeded expectations in the Premier League.

Iraola has revitalized Bournemouth, not only elevating them in the standings but also transforming them into a dynamic attacking team, one that is vying for a European spot and has recently triumphed over league leaders Arsenal.

Originating from the Basque Country, the “elite” Iraola, as described by pundit Jamie Redknapp, is a childhood teammate of Mikel Arteta, and he could potentially evolve into Newcastle’s own version of the Arsenal manager in the coming years, taking charge at St. James’ Park and developing the team into a title-winning powerhouse.

This is the goal that PIF has set, and if they wish to achieve it, they should pursue a manager whose 4-2-3-1 tactical approach has yielded significant success in the Premier League in recent years, with transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano praising him as “one of the best managers in the Premier League.”

Bournemouth is in the running for European qualification this season, and their ingenuity in the transfer market under Iraola’s leadership is reminiscent of Arsenal, who have made a series of excellent signings since Arteta took over from Unai Emery to reestablish themselves at the top of European football.

Arteta has transformed Arsenal into a formidable team over the course of several meticulous years. Similarly, Howe has achieved this, but Iraola may possess the mentality and drive to elevate Newcastle to even greater levels, positioning them alongside teams like the Gunners as genuine contenders for the title.
