Worse than Wirtz: Liverpool needs to part ways with their £140,000-a-week star, as he is dragging the team down.

Liverpool Should Release Ibrahima Konate After 3/10 Performance Against Man City.

Following their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, Liverpool must let Ibrahima Konate leave when his contract ends at the season’s conclusion. The defender’s lackluster performance contributed to the Reds’ fifth loss in the Premier League this season.

Konate’s mistake led to Manchester City’s penalty in the first half when he awkwardly cleared the ball off Jeremy Doku, although Giorgi Mamardashvili managed to save the penalty kick.

Shortly after, the French defender was outjumped by Erling Haaland, who scored the opening goal for City in the 29th minute. He also played a part in the third goal for the hosts by failing to adequately challenge Doku.

Liverpool supporters have once again expressed their frustration with Konate’s performance, labeling him a ‘liability’. He received a disappointing 3/10 rating for his display against City, marking yet another underwhelming match for Arne Slot’s team.

Liverpool Should Consider Parting with Ibrahima Konate

In recent months, there have been strong rumors regarding Konate’s potential departure from Liverpool, with negotiations for a new contract yet to make significant progress.

The French defender, who currently earns £140,000 per week, is among three first-team players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season, alongside Andy Robertson and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

There have been reports of interest from Real Madrid regarding Konate, especially given the uncertainty surrounding his future at Anfield. The Spanish club is reportedly contemplating a move akin to the situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold last summer, when he transferred to Los Blancos for a reduced fee.

However, if Konate’s subpar performances persist, it is uncertain whether Real’s interest in the defender will develop, particularly with several high-caliber centre-backs expected to be available as free agents after the season ends.

This encompasses Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, both of whom nearly signed with Liverpool in the last moments of the summer transfer window.

The Reds were about to finalize the agreement for the England international when Palace withdrew, unable to find a replacement in time with just hours left in the market.
