‘On his bike’ – A former Premier League star asserts that another top-tier club would have dismissed Slot by now.

Arne Slot and Liverpool have faced a challenging month.

It is believed that Arne Slot is not in immediate danger of losing his position at Liverpool, although one analyst has suggested that the Dutch coach might have been let go by a different Premier League team if they had experienced the same poor form as the Reds.

The 47-year-old is currently navigating his most difficult phase as LFC head coach, having suffered five defeats in six matches across all competitions, including four consecutive losses in the top flight, which has seen the reigning champions fall to seventh place in the standings.

Fabrizio Romano reported within the last 24 hours that the former Feyenoord manager still enjoys the complete trust of the Anfield management, and a past Premier League player believes he has sufficient goodwill from last season…for the time being.

Le Tissier: Slot is secure for now, but may soon face ‘pressure’.

In a conversation with Football Insider, Matt Le Tissier firmly stated that Slot is not currently under significant pressure regarding his job, but this could alter if results do not improve, and he referenced another Premier League club that might have already let him go by now.

The Southampton icon remarked: “Clearly, if this trend continues, he will come under scrutiny, but I believe what he accomplished last season has afforded him some leeway to endure a rough spell without immediate consequences.

“For example, if he were at Nottingham Forest and had lost five out of six matches, he would likely be out of a job by now, but that does not seem to be the situation at Liverpool.

“Looking back, even Jurgen Klopp had a rocky start in his first season. There were early questions about his capabilities, and just look at what he ultimately achieved.

“I think Slot has secured himself a fair amount of time in that regard, but you know, five defeats out of six…if that escalates to eight losses in nine matches, then you will start to see the pressure mount.”

Klopp navigated a similar downturn to the one Slot is currently facing.

Le Tissier accurately points out that Slot should not feel threatened at this moment, and the comparison to Klopp’s initial years at Liverpool is also relevant.

The German manager finished eighth in his first season in charge (taking over in October), and during the middle of the next season in 2016/17, he experienced a significant slump akin to what the Reds are going through now.

Nevertheless, he was afforded the time to rectify the situation, and LFC ultimately secured a spot in the Champions League, marking the first major milestone towards the remarkable success that the 58-year-old has achieved at Anfield.

In contrast, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis dismissed Ange Postecoglou after just eight matches (and within 20 minutes of full-time following a loss to Chelsea recently), indicating that the volatile Greek businessman might have acted swiftly against Slot if he were at the City Ground and faced the same results as Liverpool.

Fortunately, FSG demonstrates considerably more patience and composure than the owner in Nottingham, and it would require a far more significant decline for our current head coach to genuinely be at risk of losing his job, as Melissa Reddy rightly notes.

Slot has certainly made errors over the past month and must learn from them promptly, but we have complete confidence in the Dutchman to get the Reds back on track and relegate this past month to a mere unpleasant memory.
