Arsenal injury updates and expected return dates ahead of the match against Liverpool.

Updates on Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Kai Havertz, Christian Norgaard, Ben White, and Gabriel Jesus regarding their injuries.

On Saturday, Arsenal secured their second consecutive victory in the Premier League, decisively defeating Leeds United 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber each scored two goals, while Bukayo Saka marked his first goal of the season. However, during a night filled with promise for Arsenal – following the introduction of new signing Eberechi Eze – there were concerns regarding injuries to both Saka and Martin Odegaard.

The Gunners’ captain fell on his right shoulder early in the match and did not fully recover, while Saka suffered a hamstring issue in the second half. This leaves Mikel Arteta anxious about the fitness of both players ahead of next weekend’s match against Liverpool. Below, football.london provides the latest updates on Arsenal’s injury situation…

Bukayo Saka

Saka was substituted in the 54th minute against Leeds after experiencing discomfort in his left hamstring. The Hale Ender had previously missed nearly four months of last season due to surgery on his other hamstring and appeared to be in significant pain as he exited the field.

What Arteta stated: “And Bukayo, while he was running with the ball, carrying the ball, wrestling with the defender, he felt something in his hamstring. So let’s see. I think it’s the other one. It’s not the same one as the previous injury. But yeah, I mean, we’ve been two weeks and we already lost Kai, Martin and Bukayo. So it tells you how well-equipped you have to be in this league to manage and to maintain the level that we want.”

He continued: “I don’t know. He felt something while he was sprinting. That’s never a good sign. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Speak to the doctors as well and understand better what he does. But he’s had these injuries before. He knows exactly the feeling of that. So let’s wait.”

Expected return date: Unknown.

Martin Odegaard

Odegaard sustained a shoulder injury during the victory against Leeds and was substituted after 38 minutes. The Arsenal captain seemed to be in pain before exiting the field.

What Arteta said: “Those are the negatives of the day. So Martin felt something in his shoulder when he landed. We don’t know. We’ll have to scan him tomorrow and understand a bit better.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Kai Havertz

It was reported prior to the Leeds United match that Kai Havertz had sustained a knee injury. The German is anticipated to be out for a while, with reports from his home country indicating a cartilage issue.

What Arteta said: “Well, certainly not fit for this match. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury and we don’t really know yet the extent of it. I think we need a bit more time and some more tests and after that we’ll have more clarity about the next steps.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Christian Norgaard

Norgaard has been absent from Arsenal’s first two Premier League matches this season due to a minor injury. However, the former Brentford player could potentially make his debut for the club against Liverpool next week.

What Arteta said: “Yeah, Christian won’t be in the squad. With Ben, let’s see still how he reacts and what we decide. But Christian will be out for another week or so.”

Potential return date: Liverpool (Sunday, August 31)

Ben White.

The defender participated in Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United last week but had to leave the game in the 71st minute.

He was substituted by Jurrien Timber, but the good news is that he appeared to be fine walking off the pitch.

Nevertheless, the former Brighton player was not included in the matchday squad against Leeds and remains unavailable.

What Arteta said: “Yeah, Christian won’t be in the squad. With Ben, let’s see still how he reacts and what we decide. But Christian will be out for another week or so.”

Potential return date: Liverpool (Sunday, August 31)

Gabriel Jesus

Jesus has been sidelined since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the FA Cup loss to Manchester United last season.

He has consistently shared updates on his recovery through social media, featuring images of himself working out in the gym.

In March, the Brazilian revealed that he had successfully finished the initial seven weeks of his rehabilitation, but his comeback is not anticipated until the year’s end.

Expected return date: December
