The allure of a beach vacation is strong for everyone at Elland Road right now. Daniel Farke, having secured Premier League safety on his first attempt, might be tempted by the Caribbean, but he will have to settle for a tan in the boardroom as a busy summer begins at Leeds United.

The Yorkshire club is currently focused on avoiding a second-season slump, which could involve several new signings.

Reports suggest that any interested party could see a £30m bid accepted, which is the fee the Dutch club hopes to receive as interest grows.

However, Everton has currently taken the lead over Leeds by preparing an offer, which is expected to be rejected at around £20m.

This gives the Whites plenty of time to make a move for a player who could outperform Dominic Calvert-Lewin under Farke next season.

Why Ueda could elevate Leeds’ attacking prowess

It is undeniable that Calvert-Lewin had a remarkable first season at Elland Road last year.

He spearheaded the effort to secure the club’s safety and was the primary beneficiary of Farke’s tactical adjustments. However, his history of injuries and inconsistent performance over the years indicates that Leeds should seek an alternative option.

This alternative could be Ueda. At 27, he is currently at the height of his abilities and offers a more versatile skill set than Calvert-Lewin. Should Leeds need to modify their system again next season, the Japan international is in the best position to adapt compared to his potential rivals.

Ueda is generally much more dynamic than Calvert-Lewin. Last season, the Feyenoord player averaged one more shot per game than Calvert-Lewin and recorded a superior expected goals (xG) figure.

He was not particularly wasteful with his xG or shot attempts either. He concluded the season with 25 goals, exceeding his expected tally by nearly seven goals. If given an opportunity, Ueda is likely to celebrate with joy.

Despite Calvert-Lewin’s strengths in a Premier League increasingly focused on physicality, he struggled to convert chances last season.

As the threat of second-season syndrome looms, such inefficiency could prove costly at Elland Road. This is why it is essential for Leeds to secure a player like Ueda in the upcoming months.

Now is not the moment for the Yorkshire club to relax, reflect on their achievements, and enjoy a leisurely drink. On the contrary, they have a prime opportunity to enhance a squad poised to firmly establish itself in the top tier this summer.
