Newcastle United has initiated discussions regarding a possible transfer for FC Koln winger Said El Mala as they continue their search for a replacement for Anthony Gordon.

Gordon’s £70 million transfer to Barcelona has left Newcastle in need of additional options in that position, with Harvey Barnes being the only natural substitute currently available in the Magpies’ lineup.

As reported by TEAMtalk on June 6, Newcastle has reached out to FC Koln to talk about acquiring their 19-year-old talent.

“Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United have made inquiries about a potential summer transfer for the highly-rated young forward Said El Mala,” TEAMtalk stated.

El Mala is attracting significant attention following a standout season in Germany, with not only Newcastle and Nottingham Forest pursuing him, but also several Serie A and Bundesliga clubs keeping an eye on his situation and linked to a possible summer move.

Goal.com mentioned that Brentford had an agreement in place for El Mala at approximately €50 million, including bonuses, but the transfer fell through at the last moment due to familiar complications.

“His parents, who are heavily involved in the negotiations, are eager for any interested club to also consider signing his older brother, Malek El Mala,” TEAMtalk reported.

This seemingly complicated the deal for Brentford, as they were not willing to commit to both brothers. In my opinion, they made the right choice, and NUFC should follow suit. No Bron and Bronny situation here, folks.

Regardless, reports suggest that Newcastle is still looking for ways to facilitate a transfer without having to engage with the player’s mother or his brother.

“Both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle are believed to be seeking innovative solutions to address the family aspect,” TEAMtalk reported.

El Mala has received a new contract proposal from FC Koln and has not requested a transfer, yet TEAMtalk reports that he aspires to compete at a higher level. As is often the case, it appears to be the player attempting to pressure his current club into negotiating a more lucrative deal, with rumors intentionally circulated to facilitate this outcome.

For Newcastle, the winger aligns with the “young, high-potential” profile they are pursuing following Gordon’s departure, although no official offer has been made at this time.
