Liverpool urged to seize £60m Manchester United transfer – ‘I would love that’, says Emile Heskey.

Emile Heskey has called on Liverpool to intercept a transfer deal involving Manchester United as the Reds aim to enhance Arne Slot’s squad this summer.

Having already acquired Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool is nearing a significant agreement for his former teammate Florian Wirtz.

The club at Anfield is also striving to secure Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth and is looking to add another forward to boost Slot’s attacking options.

Last season, Liverpool clinched the Premier League title by a margin of ten points, but they recognize the necessity for reinforcements as they prepare to defend their title against a stronger Manchester City and a well-positioned Arsenal.

On the other side of the table, Manchester United has made Matheus Cunha their first signing of the summer and is currently negotiating a deal for Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbeumo has verbally consented to a transfer to Old Trafford, but United has yet to meet Brentford’s £60m asking price for a player who netted 20 goals in the Premier League last season.

The Cameroon international was previously linked with Tottenham and Newcastle United before Manchester United became the leading candidate to secure his services.

However, Heskey expressed his desire for Mbeumo to join his former club Liverpool, asserting that he would have been an ideal fit for Slot’s squad.

‘It’s difficult to claim Liverpool makes errors in the transfer market, as their approach is typically very sound,’ the former England striker remarked to Prime Casino.

‘I would have loved to see Bryan Mbeumo at Anfield with Liverpool. He possesses numerous qualities.

‘He has been a proven performer in the Premier League for several years. His work ethic is remarkable. He has a keen eye for goal. He is highly technical and comprehends the style Liverpool aims to implement.

‘Thus, it was intriguing to observe that they never truly pursued him.

Mbeumo appears poised to join a Manchester United squad that ended up in 15th place in the Premier League last season and will not participate in any European competitions next year.

Why Mbeumo and Cunha are still drawn to struggling Man Utd

When asked how United managed to lure Mbeumo and Cunha despite their poor performance in the 2024-25 season, Heskey remarked: ‘The reality is that United still possesses the allure to attract players.

‘Typically, Mbeumo would be seeking Champions League football, considering the club’s ambitions.

‘Even now, in the absence of European competition and during a transitional period, United can still secure players like him and Matheus Cunha.
