‘Arsenal agree £70million Viktor Gyokeres deal after Fabrizio Romano update’…

Arsenal may be on the verge of finalizing a £70million deal for Viktor Gyokeres, the forward from Sporting Lisbon, following an update from Fabrizio Romano.

This summer, Mikel Arteta is eager to recruit a striker after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title in the 2024-25 season.

On June 13, Football Insider disclosed that Manchester United is intensifying efforts to secure Gyokeres, as Ruben Amorim has identified him as the top target.

Nevertheless, Fabrizio Romano indicated on June 14 that the Sweden international’s main preference is to join Arsenal instead of Man United.

Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser for Man City, exclusively informed Football Insider that Sporting Lisbon is likely to accept an offer between £65-70million for Gyokeres, despite his £85million release clause.

The 27-year-old, who transferred from Coventry City for approximately £20million in July 2023, achieved an impressive tally of 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 matches during the 2024-25 season.

Sporting Lisbon risks ‘overplaying their hand’ amid Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres.

Borson emphasized that Sporting Lisbon might be jeopardizing their position by seeking a high fee for Gyokeres this summer.

He stated to Football Insider: “Arsenal is in a strong financial position.

“They possess a robust PSL standing, a solid UEFA FFP status, are well-managed, and have ample capacity. They could even sell a young player if necessary to increase their financial flexibility.

“It seems more about their willingness to spend rather than their ability to do so. Are they inclined to pay £85million? He has just turned 27.

“Is that the kind of investment they want to make for a player of his age? If the transfer doesn’t pan out, what are the consequences? It could lead to a significant financial loss. It appears to be a considerable amount.

“I believe they would hesitate to pay £85million, not due to financial constraints, but rather from a reluctance to do so. Honestly, I suspect Sporting would be willing to sell him for significantly less than that.

“I believe they will likely acknowledge that this is the optimal summer to sell him. This is when he holds his highest value.

“He could very well have a rather underwhelming season next year, and by next summer, he will be 28. We are aware of how the football industry perceives age at this moment.

“Especially for forwards at 28, his market value will significantly decrease, so I anticipate he would be sold for around £65-70 million this summer, and I think that will happen.

“The only potential risk I see is Sporting overestimating their posi tion.”
