Liverpool is reportedly keen on acquiring an English winger, as Borussia Dortmund has slashed their asking price by £25 million.

Liverpool is reportedly among the clubs showing interest in Jamie Gittens, the left winger from Dortmund, who may now be available for a reduced fee.

Gittens, who represents the England U21 team, made the move to Dortmund from Manchester City in 2020 and has been linked with Liverpool multiple times this season.

German sources have confirmed the Reds’ ongoing interest, with journalist Fabrizio Romano noting last month that club scouts have observed the 20-year-old on several occasions.

A recent report from Sky Germany reiterates Liverpool’s interest, indicating that Dortmund is “internally preparing” for the potential departure of their No. 43 at the end of the current season.

Other clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Bayern Munich are also in the mix, with the Premier League being described as Gittens’ “dream destination.”

Sky Germany also highlights that if Dortmund fails to secure a spot in either the Champions League or Europa League by season’s end, they may be compelled to sell Gittens.

Dortmund’s current standing in the Bundesliga, with 10 matches remaining, places them 10th, just five points shy of fifth place, which would guarantee a Europa League berth.

Historically, Dortmund has not finished below fifth since the 2014/15 season, consistently competing in the Champions League for the past nine years.

Initially, they valued Gittens at €100 million (£82.7 million), but this figure is considered “rather unrealistic,” with a more likely price range of €60 million (£49.6 million) to €70 million (£57.9 million) suggested for interested parties.

Gittens has made 94 appearances for Dortmund’s first team, and while his goal tally stands at 16 with 10 assists, he is evolving into a significant attacking threat.

Most of his playtime has been on the left wing, although he has also featured on the right 15 times and once in a central attacking midfield role.

He has consistently featured for the England U21 team over the last two seasons, including scoring a goal with an assist from Harvey Elliott during a 7-0 victory against Luxembourg around this time last year.

Liverpool currently boasts a wealth of talent on the left wing, highlighted by second-highest scorer Cody Gakpo and the adaptable Luis Diaz.

This abundance may cast doubt on any reported interest in Gittens; however, there could be changes in Arne Slot’s attacking lineup this summer, given the uncertainty surrounding several players.

Diaz remains linked to Barcelona, and the Colombian will enter the final two years of his contract in July, while Darwin Nunez is anticipated to depart amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, there is ongoing speculation regarding Mohamed Salah’s future, as the Egyptian has yet to receive a satisfactory contract extension despite his wish to remain.

Although Gittens may not serve as an immediate replacement for Salah—especially since his natural position is on the opposite wing—Liverpool cannot be dismissed as a potential suitor for the young talent as their attacking strategy evolves.
