Leeds United is currently leading Aston Villa in the pursuit of a new goalkeeper.

The club is aiming to enhance its goalkeeping lineup and has shown interest in Japan international Zion Suzuki.

According to Calciomercato, both Leeds and Villa are keen on the 23-year-old, who is presently participating in the World Cup and preparing for tonight’s knockout match against Brazil.

Suzuki has played in all three group matches against the Netherlands, Tunisia, and Sweden, and he represents Parma in club football. He signed a five-year contract with the Serie A team in July 2024.

Having made 59 appearances for Parma, his performances for Japan have caught the eye of both Premier League clubs, as well as AC Milan and Internazionale.

The report indicates that Leeds has reached out regarding Suzuki, as they seek to address a goalkeeping dilemma that saw Lucas Perri benched last season, with Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier set to become free agents later this week.

On the other hand, Villa has their long-term No. 1, Emiliano Martinez, but there are ongoing rumors about the future of the 33-year-old, with Juventus reportedly interested.

Parma is reportedly asking for €30 million (£26 million) for Suzuki, with Leeds and Villa having already competed in the transfer market, as Harry Wilson is expected to opt for Elland Road over a move to the Champions League-bound Villa.
