Leeds United is nearing a new signing as the club engages in advanced discussions for a replacement.

The club has reached an agreement to acquire Harry Wilson on a free transfer, but they are also making progress on another signing.

Despite having several midfield options, Leeds is keen on enhancing that position, with Shea Charles identified as a primary target.

Although he has a year remaining on his contract, Southampton is holding out for a higher fee after turning down Leeds’ initial offer of £20 million earlier this week.

Nevertheless, it appears that both clubs are nearing an agreement for Charles’ transfer, as Southampton is actively negotiating to secure his replacement this summer.

Southampton is in advanced discussions to find a substitute for Shea Charles.

The club recognizes that Charles is set to depart, with Leeds being the likely destination, as the midfielder is eager to make the move to Elland Road.

An agreement for his transfer seems imminent, and Southampton is already in talks to acquire his replacement as soon as possible this summer.

According to Sky Sports News, the Saints are in advanced negotiations with midfielder Dan Neil, who will be out of contract next week.

Neil was part of the Ipswich squad that achieved promotion to the Premier League last season, but he will be leaving the club this summer.

He has become the top target for Southampton manager Tonda Eckert, as the Saints aim to sign him on a free transfer during the current window.

Reports suggest that Neil is close to finalizing a deal with Southampton and could soon put pen to paper with the club.

With Charles on the verge of leaving, the Saints are on the brink of securing his replacement in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Leeds is also expected to sell a midfielder if they successfully sign Charles, but there is significant speculation regarding who might exit Elland Road this summer.

Anton Stach and Ethan Ampadu are seen as pivotal members of Daniel Farke’s team and are unlikely to be leaving. Ao Tanaka has also solidified his position following a remarkable season and a strong performance in the World Cup, making him another player Leeds are eager to retain.

This leaves Ilia Gruev and Sean Longstaff as the midfielders whose futures appear much more uncertain if Shea Charles joins this summer.

Longstaff struggled to find his rhythm after his transfer from Newcastle last year. Despite a promising start, he gradually fell down the ranks as the season progressed.

Gruev’s future is also in doubt. The Bulgarian has only one year left on his contract, and there has been little sign that Leeds are looking to extend it. His recent knee injury, however, may complicate any efforts to transfer him before the window closes.

Leeds consider Charles a key target, but acquiring him will likely necessitate making space in the squad. If the transfer is finalized, one of the current midfielders is expected to depart.
