Arsenal is poised to finalize the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP next week, following an agreement on a £55 million deal.

Reports indicate that the Premier League club has been in pursuit of the striker for some time, especially after a disappointing season where they failed to secure any major trophies.

With Arsenal finishing as runners-up for the third consecutive year and qualifying for the next Champions League, they are now focusing on summer signings.

Gyokeres, who is expected to depart from the Portuguese club, is seen as a crucial addition, particularly in light of injuries to key players Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a fee of approximately €65 million has been negotiated, and discussions with other top European clubs are ongoing.

According to Football Transfers, the transfer will be officially announced next week after Sporting Lisbon’s final match of the season, which will also mark Gyokeres’ last appearance for the team.

However, not all fans are in favor of this move, as Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has expressed a preference for signing Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak instead.

At the end of March, Petit expressed his preference for Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres, citing Osimhen’s superior pedigree as the reason he would be a better fit for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

However, he emphasized that if Arsenal were to invest heavily in a striker this summer, Alexander Isak should be their top target, as he is already familiar with the Premier League and requires no adjustment period.

Isak is ready to perform immediately and has demonstrated exceptional quality as a top striker capable of scoring against any opponent.

Petit believes Isak would significantly enhance Arsenal’s attacking options, which are currently lacking a standout player who can make a difference and provide a physical presence in the forward position.

He noted that Arsenal currently relies solely on one strategy and lacks a backup plan, highlighting the urgent need for a striker.

Petit praised Isak’s impressive performances with Newcastle and envisioned how well he would integrate with players like Odegaard and Saka, suggesting he embodies the qualities of an ideal Arsenal player.

He concluded that securing Isak would be a remarkable achievement for the club, which has faced challenges competing with Manchester City and Liverpool in recent seasons.

To ensure success, Arsenal must invest in a top-tier player this summer, and while Osimhen could be an alternative if Isak is unattainable, Isak should be their primary focus.
