Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool is nearing two of the most important deals of the summer.

The club is currently in discussions to secure contract extensions for both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The existing contracts for the two players are set to expire in the summers of 2028 and 2026, respectively.

It is reported that negotiations with the French defender are at a more advanced stage compared to those with the Hungarian international.

Extending the contracts of Konate and Szoboszlai is essential for Liverpool.

Romano took to X (formerly Twitter) early Tuesday morning to state that the Reds are ‘confident’ in finalizing an improved deal for Konate. Similarly, discussions with Szoboszlai are still in progress.

🚨 Liverpool is optimistic about reaching a new agreement with Konaté soon, as negotiations are quite advanced.

Negotiations with Dominik Szoboszlai are ongoing at this point, and a deal is in the works.

While these two contracts may not appear as urgent as the need to strengthen the forward line this summer, securing both would offer significant reassurance.

With Jeremy Jacquet expected to join the team this summer and Giovanni Leoni likely to return to training by the end of April, Liverpool would have a complete set of centre-backs, provided Konate remains.

Additionally, while Szoboszlai is not in immediate danger of leaving, a new contract would serve as a strong deterrent to any clubs interested in acquiring him this summer.

Given reports suggesting that Alexis Mac Allister might depart at the season’s end, along with the loss of experienced players like Mo Salah and Andy Robertson, further key losses would be detrimental.

Liverpool cannot afford to fill additional spots this summer.

In short, Liverpool cannot waste resources on replacing both Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Arne Slot has already acknowledged that a sell-to-buy strategy may be necessary this summer.

However, introducing additional key roles beyond two wingers (and possibly a flexible centre-forward), a central midfielder, and perhaps even a right-back, would make things more complex.

This is already a difficult undertaking – even more so considering that Richard Hughes and his team will not have the same financial resources they possessed last summer.
