‘All sealed’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms ‘smart’ six-year deal for Liverpool transfer target

Reported Liverpool target Michael Kayode has signed a contract extension with Brentford.

Fabrizio Romano has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the 21-year-old fullback will remain at the Gtech Community Stadium until June 2032.

This development could pose a setback for the Reds’ transfer ambitions, as the club was reportedly eager to strengthen the right-back position.

Michael Kayode signs new deal with Brentford

Kudos to the Bees for swiftly securing a deal for a player who has gained admiration following a standout first season in the Premier League.

EXCL: Brentford agree new deal for Michael Kayode valid until June 2032!

All sealed as Brentford makes a significant, strategic move to retain one of the most sought-after right-backs in the league.

The 21-year-old Italian talent excelled last season and is a crucial part of Brentford’s plans, according to club sources.

The Italy international made 44 appearances (scoring one goal and providing two assists) across all competitions in the 2025/26 season.

While he may not be the most creative player, his underlying statistics reveal a footballer with exceptional skills both on and off the ball.

Given his impressive availability record, it’s easy to see why Kayode has been recommended to Liverpool, especially considering their difficulties in keeping Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong fit.

Were Liverpool planning to sign Michael Kayode?

SportsBoom reported back in February that the Reds were “plotting a move” for the defender.

Manchester United and Newcastle were also believed to be monitoring the situation.

Liverpool have an availability problem at right-back

It’s a deeply frustrating situation regarding the right-back position.

With Bradley and Frimpong, Liverpool has a more than adequate selection, with the Northern Irishman clearly being the preferred choice for the role.

To be completely candid, had the former demonstrated a comparable level of durability as Michael Kayode did last season, we wouldn’t even be considering the addition of another right-back to our roster.

However, we currently find ourselves in a predicament where Conor Bradley is poised to return to training after the season has commenced. This situation is far from ideal, as he will miss a crucial pre-season under new manager Andoni Iraola and will likely need to be gradually reintegrated into the squad during the initial part of the campaign.

Regrettably, we are now in a scenario where we cannot continue to rely on the fitness of two inconsistent fullbacks.

Moreover, if we intend to acquire Kayode for Anfield, his recent six-year contract means he will come at a significant financial cost.

One cannot shake the impression that Liverpool has a considerable amount of work ahead this summer.
