Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal’s signing is officially a ‘here we go’ deal.

Romano stated that Arsenal has finalized a signing exceeding £50 million, and while they have secured their ‘top target’, he also disclosed which other player the Gunners initially pursued.

This summer, Arsenal has already completed four first-team signings, including Illan Meslier as a backup goalkeeper, the permanent acquisition of Piero Hincapie, Bruno Guimaraes to bolster the midfield, and Christos Tzolis to take over Leandro Trossard’s position on the left wing.

They are now seeking another high-profile left winger, which would allow Gabriel Martinelli to be released.

Additionally, a more effective striker is on their radar, but recently, the emphasis has shifted towards acquiring a versatile defender.

With William Saliba (back) and Jurrien Timber (groin) both sidelined, Mikel Arteta was in search of a reliable player capable of performing at both centre-back and right-back.

On Wednesday afternoon, Arteta successfully secured his target, with Romano providing his signature ‘here we go’ confirmation regarding Ezri Konsa’s transfer to Arsenal.

Arsenal has reached an agreement to sign Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa.

Romano posted on X, stating: ‘Arsenal agree deal to sign Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa, here we go!

‘The fee is set at £50 million plus add-ons, and a long-term contract is arranged with the English defender.

‘Konsa will complete his medical within the next 48 hours before officially signing with #AFC.’

Romano’s announcement followed a similar report from the Athletic, which mentioned that Konsa, 28, is costing £51 million plus add-ons and is expected to undergo his medical tomorrow (Thursday).

Konsa is an outstanding addition for Arsenal, who are in a win-now mindset. He has been Aston Villa’s top defender for several years and performed exceptionally at the World Cup with England.

However, while Romano referred to Konsa as Arsenal’s ‘top target all summer’ earlier on Wednesday, he also indicated that the Gunners had made an attempt to sign a different defender first.

In his YouTube channel report, he stated: “In recent weeks, they have pursued other defenders, such as Marc Pubill from Atletico Madrid.

“However, Atletico had no desire to negotiate or engage in discussions, which means Pubill will remain with them, and Arsenal is now targeting Konsa.”
