Arsenal given major hope of hijacking deal to sign £85million Tottenham target…

Arsenal has been given significant encouragement in their pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magpies seem willing to let the Italian international leave during the summer transfer window, albeit reluctantly.

Eddie Howe has supported the former AC Milan captain throughout his gambling ban and has played a crucial role in helping the 26-year-old become recognized as one of the most well-rounded midfielders in the Premier League.

Newcastle has already rejected an initial £75 million offer from Tottenham, whose manager, Roberto De Zerbi, is eager to work with his fellow countryman.

Spurs are anticipated to make a second offer for Tonali as they aim to complete their transfer dealings early and avoid repeating the errors that resulted in back-to-back 17th place finishes.

Negotiations for players like Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Savinho are at different stages, but reaching an agreement for Tonali is expected to be more challenging.

Newcastle is believed to be asking for £85 million for a player they acquired for £55 million nearly three years ago when he joined St James’ Park.

Manchester City is monitoring the situation, but their focus is currently on finalizing a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and resolving Rodri’s future.

According to the Daily Mail, Tonali prefers a move to Arsenal, who could enter the fray once a fee is settled between Newcastle and Spurs.

Arsenal had the opportunity to sign Tonali through his representatives on the final day of the January transfer window, but there was insufficient time to complete the deal.

After clinching the title last season, Arsenal is prepared to make significant investments in the market again, aiming to revamp their midfield and attacking options.

Christian Norgaard is likely to leave, and Mikel Arteta is open to allowing Martin Odegaard to depart if a suitable offer comes in.

Howe’s recruitment personnel have been evaluating several options to bolster their midfield, with AZ Alkmaar’s Smit being a player they greatly admire.

The race for the 20-year-old has been competitive, but following Smit’s exclusion from Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands World Cup squad, Newcastle is hopeful they can lure him in with the promise of regular first-team play.

Smit has garnered interest from top clubs across Europe and is likely to be valued at more than £60 million.
