Fabrizio Romano discusses Yan Diomande’s thoughts following the rejection of Liverpool’s €100m offer.

Liverpool’s initial bid to acquire Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig has been turned down.

The 19-year-old winger has been on the Premier League champions’ radar for several months.

The Reds’ scouting team has pinpointed the Ivorian as the ideal player to enhance the one-on-one capabilities that were lacking on the wings under Arne Slot last season.

Currently participating in the FIFA World Cup with Cote d’Ivoire, Diomande is contracted to RB Leipzig until 2030. The German Bundesliga club signed him from Leganes in Spain last summer for just €20m, giving them significant leverage over his transfer prospects.

Romano: Diomande’s value may escalate to €120m

An initial valuation of €100m was suggested for the young forward, but at this moment, that amount is insufficient.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano and others, Richard Hughes submitted an offer of €90m plus an additional €10m in performance-related bonuses to Red Bull for Diomande this week, which was promptly rejected.

“An official bid for Yan Diomande was submitted today by Liverpool,” Romano stated on his YouTube channel.

“My understanding is that the bid totaled €90 million with €10m in add-ons, making up the complete offer.

“RB Leipzig has turned down this proposal. They are not willing to accept €100m for Yan Diomande – that is the club’s stance.”

Considering the length of Diomande’s contract and the ongoing interest in him, it is likely that Red Bull will be satisfied to wait. They may aim to offer their star player a salary increase and persuade him to remain for at least another season.

Diomande intrigued by the prospect of a move following Liverpool’s offer

“First and foremost, they still aspire to retain Yan Diomande,” Romano noted.

“They are attempting to communicate to Diomande and his agents: stay for one more season at RB Leipzig, sign a new contract, receive a substantial salary, include a release clause, and in the summer of 2027, you can choose your next destination.

You have the option to choose the new club; they do not need to contact us as Leipzig. They will pay the clause, and you can select the best project and contract that suits you. This is the message coming from Leipzig.

However, there may be a potential weakness in the strategy of the energy drink company. They might be relying on Diomande’s willingness to remain for another season and participate in the UEFA Champions League.

Yet, Romano has revealed that Diomande is considering a transfer to a new club this summer, with Liverpool leading the pursuit.

“On the flip side, the player is quite inclined to leave the club this summer rather than wait for another season, even with the prospect of Champions League football,” the Italian transfer expert stated.

“Diomande is seriously contemplating the option of departing immediately.”

Reports suggest that Liverpool may need to approach the figures paid for Florian Wirtz last summer to persuade Leipzig to agree to a transfer. Romano indicates that the amount could reach €120m, which translates to an impressive £104m.

Keep an eye on PSG in the Diomande competition.

“Liverpool’s €100m offer is insufficient,” he remarked.

“Currently, industry sources—not directly from Leipzig—believe that €120m might be the necessary figure to facilitate a deal with RB Leipzig, making it the key number to initiate discussions regarding Yan Diomande.”

Red Bull will be determined to retain him at least until the World Cup concludes, as this will be crucial for maximizing his market value.

“Another reason they are not selling at this moment is their belief that with each game in the World Cup, Yan Diomande’s value could increase, attracting more clubs to the competition,” Romano concluded.

“Liverpool is in the mix, Paris Saint-Germain remains interested, and additional clubs may enter the fray if the player continues to perform well, potentially driving up the price.

Leipzig has its own strategy, while the Red Bull group follows a different approach. This is definitely something we need to monitor closely.
