Ornstein names club leading race for Andy Robertson transfer

Andy Robertson’s next destination is already beginning to take shape following confirmation of his Liverpool departure, with Tottenham Hotspur now reportedly leading the race to sign the Scotland captain.

The 32-year-old is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after an outstanding nine-year spell at Anfield, and attention has quickly shifted to where one of the club’s modern legends could continue his career.

According to David Ornstein of *The Athletic*, Tottenham are currently in the strongest position to secure Robertson’s signature on a free transfer this summer.

Reports claim Spurs are in pole position to land the experienced left-back, provided they maintain their Premier League status. It was also revealed that discussions had taken place during the January transfer window, although Liverpool were not prepared to approve a mid-season exit at the time.

Robertson’s professionalism meant any potential move would only happen under the right conditions, but with his contract now nearing its end, the circumstances have naturally changed.

Despite Tottenham’s strong interest, no final agreement has been reached yet, with several European clubs also monitoring the situation and hoping to take advantage of his free-agent status.

Spurs’ interest in Robertson is believed to go beyond simply strengthening at left-back. The North London side are also eager to add leadership, experience, and a winning mentality to a squad that has lacked those qualities in recent years.

The Scottish international’s decorated career is a huge attraction, having won every major trophy with Liverpool since arriving from Hull City in 2017.

Mohamed Salah recently praised his long-time teammate, describing Robertson as someone who “leaves as a legend,” showing the immense respect he commands within the dressing room.

Robertson has also spoken emotionally about his upcoming exit, admitting that Liverpool will always hold a special place in his heart while promising to give everything for the club until his final appearance.

With Milos Kerkez now reportedly ahead of him in the pecking order, regular first-team football could be one of the main reasons behind Robertson’s next move — something Tottenham may be able to offer if they remain in the Premier League.

For Liverpool, the focus now will be on giving Robertson the farewell he deserves, even as speculation over the next chapter of his career continues to grow.
