Liverpool is reportedly nearing an agreement to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Since taking over from Jurgen Klopp, new head coach Arne Slot has yet to make any signings at Anfield, which has raised eyebrows.

Despite this, Liverpool kicked off their 2024-25 Premier League season with a solid 2-0 win against Ipswich Town on Saturday. However, it is widely known that Slot is keen to enhance his squad.

In the immediate future, the club is considering adding a centre-back, central midfielder, and forward, especially with the potential sale of Sepp van den Berg to Brentford.

Looking ahead, Liverpool appears determined to secure a transfer that could provide long-term benefits.

Reports from Sky Sports News indicate that the club is close to finalizing terms for Mamardashvili’s transfer.

The Georgian international has been on the club’s radar for several weeks, having excelled for his national team during Euro 2024 earlier this summer.

Mamardashvili has made it clear that he is unwilling to join a larger European club only to be relegated to the bench.

Consequently, it seems that Liverpool is set to finalize a deal with Valencia, allowing the 23-year-old to continue on loan at the Mestalla.

Reports indicate that Liverpool has proposed an initial payment of £25.6 million, with an additional £4.3 million in performance-related bonuses.

While there were earlier discussions about Mamardashvili potentially moving to Bournemouth for the remainder of the season, that option now appears to have been ruled out.

What lies ahead for Liverpool’s other goalkeepers?

Currently, Liverpool’s primary options for this season are Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher.

However, Mamardashvili is being acquired with the intention of him becoming Liverpool’s future number one, making it likely that both Alisson and Kelleher could depart next summer.

Alisson has been frequently linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, while Kelleher will have only a year left on his contract and is unlikely to seek an extension if he remains a backup.
