Premier League addresses the handball controversy involving Liverpool.

The Premier League clarifies the contentious goal scored by Benjamin Sesko in the match between Manchester United and Liverpool.

On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United’s second goal against Liverpool was upheld after a VAR review scrutinized a possible handball by Benjamin Sesko, conducted by remote officials at Stockley Park.

The Slovenian forward managed to bundle the ball into the net after Bruno Fernandes redirected a cross back across the goal, with the unfortunate Freddie Woodman only able to deflect the ball onto Sesko’s thigh. However, television replays seemed to suggest that the ball might have grazed Sesko’s fingers before it found the back of the net.

In the end, the goal was allowed to stand, and the Premier League Match Centre’s X account stated that there was not enough evidence to indicate that Sesko had handled the ball.

A post on X stated: “The referee’s decision to award the goal was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, as there was no conclusive evidence that Sesko handled the ball prior to scoring.”

Gary Neville, who provided commentary for Sky Sports, concurred that there was insufficient evidence to overturn the goal. “It’s not conclusive, certainly not enough to disallow the goal. There might be a slight flick with that finger,” he remarked.

Sesko’s goal in the 14th minute was well-deserved following a dynamic start to the match at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha had already given United the lead just six minutes into the game with a volley that he struck into the ground and past Woodman, who was unfortunate to have the faintest of deflections off Alexis Mac Allister.

A swift counter-attack culminated in Sesko’s goal, with Fernandes initially trying to set up the striker within the penalty area, leaving Liverpool with a significant challenge ahead.
