Liverpool player labeled ’embarrassing’ as VAR’s private remarks surface amid Arsenal outrage.

Gary Neville has criticized Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, calling his reaction ’embarrassing’ following a VAR incident during the Liverpool vs Arsenal match.

Both Timber and Mac Allister received yellow cards for their involvement in the altercation while the video assistant referee reviewed and subsequently cleared the incident. Neville had little good to say about Mac Allister’s response, stating: “I don’t think Mac Allister needed to go down like that, but there was a slight nudge with the head. A small movement forward can have significant consequences.

“Mac Allister’s reaction is somewhat exaggerated, I can assure you. Get up. It’s embarrassing.

“It’s Mac Allister’s fault for slapping Odegaard while he’s on the ground, which is unnecessary. They’re examining the slight forward movement of Madueke’s head.

“I hope they don’t issue a red card for this. Kudos to VAR for recognizing that Mac Allister’s fall is embarrassing.

Neville shared what he heard from the VAR during commentary: “He [the VAR] mentioned that, but in a more refined manner.”

Stuart Attwell was the video assistant referee at Stockley Park. In a transcript released by the Premier League Match Centre, Attwell determined that Madueke’s actions during the confrontation were neither forceful nor violent.

He stated: “All situations have been reviewed and cleared. There is some contact as Madueke and Mac Allister confront each other. In my view, it’s not forceful, not violent, not brutal.”

Kai Havertz’s goal in the 16th minute turned out to be the crucial moment as the Premier League champions climbed back to the top of the table. Liverpool put pressure on the hosts, with Mac Allister’s first-half header being their best chance, but he could only send it over the bar.

The Gunners focused on frustrating the home team in the second half, maintaining a resolute defense that kept Liverpool from forcing David Raya into making a single save during the match. The Reds had a strong penalty claim dismissed when Jurrien Timber seemed to hold back Alexander Isak, obstructing his effort to head a Bradley Barcola cross towards the goal.

As a result of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Manchester United, Liverpool will finish the weekend outside the top four, with Xabi Alonso’s team moving into the Champions League spots.
