(Video) The sight of Salah leaving the Anfield pitch was truly heartbreaking for Liverpool supporters.
Mo Salah appeared visibly upset as he limped off the field during the second half of Liverpool’s match against Crystal Palace this afternoon.
Having announced a month ago that he would be departing the Reds at the end of this season, the Egyptian stepped onto the pitch before kick-off, believing this would be his third-to-last appearance at Anfield, ahead of home matches against Chelsea and Brentford in May.
Unfortunately, he collapsed to the ground just before the hour mark today and immediately sensed an issue with his hamstring, realizing that his participation in the match had come to an abrupt end.
Salah looked distraught as he exited the pitch.
As he rose to his feet and walked off, Salah acknowledged the fans who were warmly applauding him, sharing a mutual concern that this could be the last time they witness him play at Anfield, depending on the severity of his injury.
The 33-year-old appeared on the verge of tears as he approached the dugout, taking every possible moment to leave the field, with disappointment clearly visible on his face as he bowed his head.
Is this how Salah’s Liverpool career concludes?
We are uncertain if this was Salah’s final appearance for Liverpool, but his expression as he departed the pitch suggested he feared the worst.
If he is unable to play for the remainder of the season, it would be a disheartening conclusion to one of the most remarkable careers at Anfield, ending with him leaving the field injured and looking utterly despondent as he realized this could be his last moment in a red shirt.
Ideally, the Egyptian would have been scoring against Brentford on the final day of the season, concluding his LFC career just as he began it away to Watford in August 2017 – with a goal (and 256 more to follow).
Let’s hope Salah can still contribute to Liverpool before the season concludes, providing us with one last memorable moment before his emotional farewell in L4.
