Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi shares candid thoughts on Leeds ahead of the crucial match: “Very easy to…”
Leeds United’s upcoming match against Tottenham now carries a different weight after both teams secured victories this past weekend.
Leeds’ 3–1 win against Burnley on Friday night elevated them to 43 points, nearly ensuring their safety, while Spurs enhanced their survival chances with an away victory at Aston Villa on Sunday, moving them out of the relegation zone.
By the time Leeds reaches north London on Monday, they might already be mathematically safe. Nevertheless, this match is significant for Tottenham, who are gaining momentum and will strive to continue their strong performance at home.
West Ham will be counting on Leeds to assist them in the relegation battle, and Robert De Zerbi has made a frank statement ahead of the important game next week.
De Zerbi acknowledges Leeds’ challenge before the Tottenham match.
Tottenham’s De Zerbi expressed satisfaction following the win over Aston Villa, marking their second consecutive victory in the Premier League.
However, the Italian coach emphasized that Tottenham must not become complacent and should remember their position prior to the win against Wolves.
He highlighted that Leeds will present a formidable challenge, and they must prepare diligently to ensure they can replicate their performance next Monday night.
De Zerbi remarked to reporters after the match: “Yes, but the key point now is to keep in mind what the situation was before the Wolverhampton game.
“This is the most crucial memory to retain because in football, situations can change rapidly.
“If you lose, you are foolish; if you win, you are a champion. No, we need to find the right balance.
“We must work hard this week because Leeds is another very challenging game, and we need to remember what we have accomplished in the past month.”
The Whites could secure their safety before facing Spurs.
Should West Ham lose to Arsenal on Sunday, Leeds will be mathematically safe even before their match against Tottenham in north London next Monday.
The Whites are poised to play a crucial part in determining which team will be relegated to the Championship at the season’s conclusion.
No matter the outcome on Sunday, the Hammers will be looking for assistance from the Whites as they face Tottenham next week in their fight for survival.
Tottenham will also be watching closely at the London Stadium on the last day of the season when West Ham welcomes Leeds United.
