Sky Sports: Leeds in ongoing club-to-club talks to sign ‘class’ player after Harry Wilson…
Sky Sports: Leeds engaged in ongoing discussions to acquire ‘class’ player following Harry Wilson.
Leeds United are in active negotiations to secure a ‘class’ player – ‘The next few days are critical.’
Leeds United is nearing their first summer signing after reaching an agreement to bring Harry Wilson to Elland Road on a free transfer.
The Wales international is poised to join Daniel Farke’s team once his contract with Fulham concludes at the end of the month.
Wilson joins after what is arguably the most successful Premier League season of his career.
The 29-year-old netted 11 goals and provided nine assists across all competitions for Fulham last season, with his creativity being a significant aspect of the team’s performance throughout.
Wilson delivered key moments against several top Premier League teams.
One of his most notable displays was against Tottenham, where he scored from distance, earning the Premier League Goal of the Month award.
He also scored vital goals against Brentford, Wolves, Liverpool, and Chelsea, contributing to Fulham’s comfortable mid-table finish.
By the end of the season, Wilson had created numerous chances from open play and remained one of Fulham’s most dependable set-piece specialists.
Leeds believe his experience will be beneficial to them.
The winger has made nearly 200 appearances for Fulham and has also played for Liverpool, Bournemouth, Derby County, and Cardiff City before choosing to move to Yorkshire.
Leeds had previously tried to sign Wilson, but that attempt did not succeed.
This time, the Yorkshire club has triumphed in securing his signature despite interest from various Premier League competitors.
Wilson is anticipated to be the first senior addition of the summer as Farke continues to reshape his squad.
Nevertheless, Leeds are not halting their efforts.
Enhancing the midfield has become another key focus ahead of the upcoming season, with Southampton midfielder Shea Charles emerging as one of the club’s top targets.
Leeds is currently engaged in discussions to acquire Shea Charles after their initial bid was declined.
As reported by Sky Sports, Leeds is in ongoing negotiations with Southampton, despite having their first offer turned down.
Farke’s team is said to have proposed a £20 million bid, but Southampton has indicated that this amount does not meet their valuation.
The two clubs are continuing talks in hopes of reaching a mutually agreeable deal.
There is still hope that a consensus can be achieved if the terms of the agreement are modified.
Charles is regarded as a player who can enhance both the quality and long-term potential of Farke’s midfield.
The Whites are focused on assembling a squad that can thrive and compete in the Premier League.
Wilson’s addition would bring proven creativity and goal-scoring ability to the attack. In contrast, Charles is considered one of the club’s top midfield targets.
Reasons for Leeds’ interest in signing Shea Charles from Southampton
The Northern Ireland international made a strong impression despite Southampton’s challenging season.
Charles showcased his defensive skills while also increasing his influence in possession during the Championship season.
After returning from injury in January, he quickly made an impact by assisting Southampton in their victory over Sheffield United and scoring a dramatic late winner in a thrilling 4-3 match against Leicester City in February.
He also scored one of the season’s standout goals from approximately 35 yards against Oxford United.
This remarkable goal earned him the Championship Goal of the Month award for March.
Charles has continued to solidify his reputation as one of the most promising young midfielders outside the Premier League.
His versatility as both a holding midfielder and a defender has made him an appealing choice for Leeds, with the 22-year-old’s composure on the ball receiving significant acclaim.
