Leeds United is prioritizing the acquisition of a striker this summer to enhance the quality and depth of their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the team’s leading forward last season, netting 14 league goals and shouldering much of the scoring burden. However, the club struggled to receive adequate contributions from their other strikers.

Lukas Nmecha managed to score six league goals in 31 appearances, while Joel Piroe found it challenging to secure playing time and ended the Premier League season without a goal.

Openda joined Juventus on loan last summer, but due to an obligation to buy, the Serie A club had to make his transfer permanent at the end of the season, despite him only scoring two goals.

Juventus aimed to recover the £35 million they invested in him. However, this price has deterred several potential suitors following a disappointing season.

This would also represent a significant risk for Leeds. Nevertheless, according to Tutto Mercato, Juventus is now eager to find a way to offload him this summer.

Reports suggest that the Serie A club is now amenable to a straightforward loan arrangement to release Openda during the current transfer window.

Juventus recognizes that no club is likely to pay £35 million for him and is now prepared to loan him out, hoping he can perform well enough to secure a permanent transfer.

A loan agreement appears to be a more sensible option for Leeds.

It would have been quite reckless for Leeds to agree to pay a substantial fee or commit to an obligation to purchase Lois Openda this summer.

He managed to score only twice last season and had limited playing time during the latter half of the campaign. Juventus’ initial requests were merely a display of unrealistic optimism.

A loan arrangement is more logical for Leeds, who still hold the belief that the striker can recapture the form he displayed in Germany and become the centerpiece of their offense.

Nevertheless, his performance last season indicates that acquiring him on loan reduces the risk, making it a much more acceptable arrangement for the Whites this summer.
