Wirtz and Salah will appreciate him: Liverpool has proposed to sign the £64m “monster”

Liverpool has finally secured their target. No, it’s not Alexander Isak just yet, but it is Florian Wirtz, arguably the best no.10 in European football at this moment.

Following their Premier League title victory, FSG and Arne Slot aimed to make a significant signing. Wirtz certainly fits that bill.

By signing for a British record of £116m, the Reds have broken their own transfer record to bring in an immediate enhancement to their squad.

There were concerns that Dominik Szoboszlai didn’t score enough goals, managing only six in the top-flight during the 2024/25 season.

In contrast, Wirtz scored ten goals in the Bundesliga and 16 across all competitions. He also contributed 15 assists during his time on the pitch.

With Milos Kerkez also reportedly on his way, what’s next for Liverpool?

Liverpool’s next significant move following Wirtz.

The name that has been on everyone’s mind at Anfield over the past week is Alexander Isak.

When Newcastle United clinched Champions League football on the final day of the season, few anticipated he would leave the Toon.

In fact, securing a deal to entice the Swede away from St James’ Park still appears quite challenging.

However, if Newcastle decides to sell, Liverpool will be at the forefront of potential suitors.

Reports this week indicate that he is their ideal signing, and they are ready to initiate another record-breaking bid to pair Wirtz with a top-tier striker.

Yet, if a transfer does not come to fruition, they may need to explore other options, potentially finding their Darwin Nunez upgrade in Victor Osimhen.

This information comes from Italian journalist Valter Di Maggio, who, during a Naples-based radio show on Friday, disclosed that discussions have taken place between Napoli and Liverpool concerning the Nigerian forward.

He started by stating that “the English club is interested in Osimhen,” but the Serie A team is not willing to compromise on their valuation of the player, which is set at £64m.

Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has reportedly sought information regarding Nunez and Federico Chiesa, while Liverpool has proposed a player-swap deal.

However, Napoli is dissatisfied with this and is “demanding Chiesa, Nunez, and €20m for Osimhen’s transfer.”

Why Wirtz and Salah would be eager for Osimhen

Isak is the top choice for many clubs this summer, and it’s easy to understand why.

The Swedish forward was among the most formidable attackers in European football during the 2024/25 season, netting 27 goals across all competitions.

Nevertheless, with a price tag that could soar to £150m, any additional fees seem highly improbable.

Thus, with Osimhen, they could acquire another of the continent’s most esteemed strikers, and at a significantly lower cost.

Liverpool has effectively bolstered various positions this summer, filling the right-back spot left by Trent Alexander-Arnold, enhancing the left-back position beyond Andy Robertson, and adding competition for Szoboszlai.

The area that still appears to be lacking is the forward line, where Nunez is expected to depart and Diogo Jota is known for his injury issues.

Therefore, Osimhen would represent another enhancement for Slot and his team, providing Wirtz and Mohammed Salah with a player capable of elevating their performance.

While Salah was not entirely a solo performer this season, his assist count of 23 across all competitions and 18 in the league could have been even higher with more clinical teammates.

The Egyptian was just two assists shy of matching Thierry Henry’s record of 20 for a single Premier League season, but with Osimhen leading the line, the Nigerian could be the key to helping him achieve new records.

Moreover, the 26-year-old could be the ideal candidate to facilitate a seamless transition into English football for Wirtz.

Both players are among the most inventive in the sport and would undoubtedly flourish with Osimhen in front of them.
