‘Significant developments underway’ – Fabrizio Romano provides a major update for Liverpool

PSG is actively pursuing a deal to bring Maghnes Akliouche to the French capital this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has reported on X (formerly Twitter) that discussions are ongoing with Monaco as the 24-year-old advances through the World Cup with France.

In the 2025/26 season, the 24-year-old achieved 18 goal contributions (seven goals and 11 assists) in 43 matches across all competitions.

The acquisition of Maghnes Akliouche by PSG could potentially benefit Liverpool in their pursuit of Bradley Barcola.

With Goncalo Ramos and Kang-in Lee poised for transfers (and Randal Kolo Muani in negotiations to join Juventus), it’s clear why the Ligue 1 champions are eager to strengthen their squad this summer.

While the players are engaged in the World Cup, PSG is diligently working behind the scenes, as Maghnes Akliouche has already given his approval to join Paris Saint-Germain weeks ago.

Negotiations with AS Monaco are still in progress. Significant developments are occurring.

Moreover, as has been widely reported this summer, PSG is not expected to halt their efforts, with ongoing discussions to potentially acquire Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig.

Ultimately, while it will undoubtedly be a blow for Liverpool to see their primary target in the Ivorian choose the Champions League holders over a move to L4, there remains a strong possibility that such transactions could aid our recruitment efforts.

One of the major uncertainties regarding PSG’s squad planning for 2026/27 is the role of Bradley Barcola in this scenario.

The arrivals of Diomande and Akliouche would still limit available space.

From Barcola’s viewpoint, there will likely be an increasing, persistent concern regarding his future in Paris.

Although Maghnes Akliouche primarily plays as a right-sided attacker, the potential addition of Diomande would significantly threaten the Frenchman’s playing time in the upcoming season.

At the age of 23, Bradley Barcola is certainly not a finished product, yet he has already established himself as an elite attacker. Therefore, it’s understandable that the Frenchman feels confident in his ability to outshine the competition.

However, the competition is quite fierce, and by pursuing both options, PSG is indicating that they are comfortable with the versatile winger not being the focal point heading into the upcoming season.

This situation contrasts sharply with that at Anfield, where Liverpool could provide Barcola with the now available right wing position.

Leaving the back-to-back Champions League winners will require considerable courage and ambition. Yet, if the France international seeks a project that is defined by him rather than merely supported, he should consider Andoni Iraola’s squad on the red side of Merseyside.
