Following Frimpong’s move, the £40 million star has “consented” to join Liverpool, marking the emergence of Sadio Mane 2.0.

After Frimpong, the £40m star has “committed” to signing with Liverpool, indicating a Sadio Mane 2.0 situation.

An exciting Mane update: The £40m star has now “agreed” to join Liverpool.

Liverpool is not resting on their achievements after winning the Premier League in Arne Slot’s inaugural season as manager during the 2024/25 campaign.

The Dutch head coach came from Feyenoord last summer to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and secured the top-flight title on his first attempt.

Despite this remarkable success, Slot and his team are eager to strengthen the squad with new additions to pursue even greater accomplishments, ideally across various competitions, in the upcoming season.

One player reportedly on the club’s radar is Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz, who was recently the target of a £105m offer from the Premier League champions, according to Sky Sports.

It remains to be seen if the Reds can finalize a deal for the German international in the coming weeks during the summer transfer window.

However, Liverpool has already finalized and announced the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from the Bundesliga club, and he may not be the only full-back to join Anfield this summer.

What Jeremie Frimpong could contribute to Liverpool.

Firstly, the Reds have found their replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has made a permanent transfer to Real Madrid, in Frimpong.

Liverpool reportedly paid a relatively modest fee of £29.5m, due to his release clause, to acquire the Netherlands international, making him a cost-effective substitute for Trent this summer.

Regarding his playing style, Frimpong is an aggressive and attack-oriented ‘defender’ who aims to be on the last line and make runs to influence games from an offensive standpoint.

The 24-year-old primarily played as a wing-back for Leverkusen on the right side and could push very high and wide for Liverpool, which would complement Mohamed Salah well, as he enjoys drifting infield onto his preferred left foot to score and create opportunities.

As illustrated in the table above, Frimpong has consistently provided goals and assists at a remarkable rate for a wing-back during his tenure with the German club, indicating that he could contribute significantly to Liverpool’s scoring next season.

This could also create additional space for Salah, as opposing full-backs might need to closely monitor Frimpong’s movements, potentially allowing the winger to receive the ball with fewer defenders around him.

However, Frimpong may not be the only full-back joining Anfield soon, as Liverpool is reportedly considering a left-back from the Premier League.

Liverpool is preparing to make a bid for a Premier League defender.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool is keen on acquiring Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez during the summer transfer window.

The reporter suggests that the Premier League champions are poised to submit a formal offer for the Hungary international in the upcoming days, aiming to strengthen their left-back options.

Jacobs does not disclose the expected value of Liverpool’s bid, but he mentions that Bournemouth is seeking a minimum fee of £40m for their star defender to leave the Vitality Stadium.

The journalist also notes that the 21-year-old Premier League talent has ‘already agreed to the move’ to Anfield, indicating that there would be no complications regarding personal terms if the Reds can finalize a deal with the Cherries soon.

If Liverpool successfully completes the transfer of Kerkez to Merseyside this summer, it could mirror their successful acquisition of Sadio Mane back in 2016.

Why Milos Kerkez could be the next Sadio Mane.

The club reportedly paid a relatively modest fee of £36m to secure the Senegal international from Southampton following the 2015/16 season, during which the forward netted 11 goals and provided six assists, leading his team to European competition.

Mane scored a total of 120 goals and provided 46 assists across 269 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions throughout his time at Anfield, during which he won both the Champions League and the Premier League.

This indicates that Liverpool struck gold with the dynamic forward, as they acquired a star who was excelling for a team that was overachieving in the Premier League, and he successfully adapted to a club that aimed to secure trophies every year.

Bournemouth concluded the season in ninth place in the top division, narrowly missing out on a European spot for the upcoming season, with Kerkez playing a crucial role in their success in finishing in the top half through his outstanding performances as a left-back for Andoni Iraola’s team.

As illustrated in the table above, the Hungarian talent surpassed Andy Robertson in his contributions both in and out of possession during the Premier League season, providing more as a scorer and creator while also demonstrating greater defensive effectiveness.

These statistics imply that Kerkez possesses the caliber to make an immediate impact at Anfield, serving as an upgrade over Slot’s current left-back option, which is another reason he could mirror Mane’s success, who quickly became a star with his goals and assists on the wing.

As Izzy Christiansen mentioned in the clip above, the “machine” is just 21 years old and has not yet reached his peak, suggesting that Liverpool would also be investing in his potential for further improvement.

Similar to Mane, who joined at 24, Kerkez would come to Anfield with ample time ahead of him to become a pivotal player for the Reds for many more years, making him an excellent signing following the Frimpong deal for the opposite flank.
