After Ekitike, another Liverpool striker set set to miss the Merseyside derby match…
Following Ekitike, another Liverpool forward is set to miss the Merseyside derby match.
Arne Slot addresses the ‘devastating’ latest injury and confirms another setback for Liverpool.
‘Not on the bench’ – Slot provides a candid injury update.
The harsh truth of our season has frequently been influenced by injuries, and the case of Liverpool’s young talent Jayden Danns exemplifies how these setbacks have hindered progress at crucial times.
As we approach the Merseyside derby, Arne Slot has clarified the situation regarding the 20-year-old, and it’s not the news many were hoping for.
Slot confirms that Danns is not prepared for a return to the first team.
In his pre-Everton press conference on Liverpoolfc.com, the Dutch manager detailed the current status of the young striker after an extended absence.
“The positive aspect for him is that he has been out for a considerable time and is now rejoining the U21s, gaining some playing experience.”
This is at least a step in the right direction, especially considering the limited football the England youth international has played this season, but the Liverpool manager emphasized that there remains a considerable difference between youth minutes and senior participation.
“However, I believe there are still many steps to take if you haven’t even played 90 minutes for the U21s, let alone participate in a Premier League match.”
For us, this highlights how meticulously the club is overseeing his recovery, particularly after such a challenging series of injuries.
A long journey back for Danns following unfortunate injury challenges.
Slot also pointed out the dedication Danns has shown behind the scenes, which is something fans may not always witness during lengthy rehabilitation phases.
“But the first thing that comes to my mind is that he has worked incredibly hard – I know this because I’ve seen him around here quite a bit – to reach this point, and he has also been very unfortunate to be sidelined for such an extended period.”
That statement captures the general sentiment surrounding the academy graduate, who has faced multiple challenges just as he was beginning to gain traction, including another hamstring injury shortly after his return to the U21s.
Our head coach subsequently provided a significant update in anticipation of Sunday’s match against Everton.
“I’m pleased to see him back, but the reality is that he won’t be on the bench for us this weekend.”
This indicates that we will need to proceed without the young forward for the time being, with the emphasis now on helping him regain full fitness, as U21 manager Rob Page has confirmed he is back training on the field.
Considering how limited his participation has been this season, with only one short appearance in September, maintaining patience is essential, because if we handle his recovery effectively, Danns could still play a vital role in the future.
