Projected Arsenal squad for the match against Real Madrid: Saka returns; Kiwior and Timber bolster the defense.
Arsenal is poised to field a formidable team against Real Madrid at the Emirates, as Mikel Arteta plans to reintegrate key players, including Bukayo Saka, into the starting lineup.
The Gunners will take on Real Madrid at the Emirates on Tuesday, a match that Mikel Arteta has labeled as potentially the most significant in the past twenty years.
The last encounter with the UEFA Champions League champions was in 2006, when Arsenal triumphed, and fans are eager for a similar or even improved outcome.
In his pre-match press briefing, Arteta addressed the condition of his squad. He emphasized the importance of unity and confirmed that most players who participated in the Everton match are fit to play.
Regarding player fitness, Arteta stated, “Yes, it seems that way. We have another training session this afternoon, but Ben completed the game.”
“We had to limit his time on the pitch since he hasn’t played much recently, but he felt fine afterward. The others managed to get through the match and were able to participate in some activities yesterday, so they are ready to train today.”
Additionally, Bukayo Saka has come through two consecutive matches without any issues since his return from a long-term injury.
Although he has not yet started a match, the winger has made two substitute appearances, including a full half against Everton.
When asked if he was prepared to start against Real Madrid, Arteta responded, “He’s in a much better position. We’ve gradually increased his playing time over the last six or seven days. He has handled it well and is in a good condition to be utilized.”
Regarding his team selection, Arteta is anticipated to reinstate several players who were rested for the match against Everton. Nevertheless, the Spaniard might keep the central defensive duo of William Saliba and Jakub Kiwior, with Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly positioned as the full-backs.
Arteta has the option to pair Ben White with Saliba, although the defender’s match fitness is still uncertain. Thomas Partey was fully rested over the weekend and is expected to take his place at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, flanked by Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.
Mikel Merino is set to continue as the main striker, despite Leandro Trossard’s recent goal.
Gabriel Martinelli may take the place of the Belgian international in the starting eleven. Lastly, Saka is likely to return to the starting lineup, taking the right wing position over Ethan Nwaneri.
Predicted Arsenal XI: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Merino, Martinelli.
