Matthias Jaissle has emerged as Newcastle’s primary target as another exit is confirmed.

Newcastle’s top transfer target is pushing for an exit following a tough decision from the manager.

A period of transformation is underway at St James’ Park, with significant changes in both the playing and management staff in recent months.

In addition to seven senior signings, the club has welcomed new Academy players and project signings like Johan Martinez, confirmed a £190m training facility, and secured commercial partnerships with KNOX and SumUp.

Another development has seen Matthias Jaissle assemble his own coaching team, resulting in the departure of several long-standing coaches who were integral under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle is actively looking to offload Nick Woltemade before the transfer window closes, according to talkSPORT.

The club’s record signing faced a challenging first season at St. James’ Park and may leave after just one year with the team.

Woltemade made a record £69million transfer from Stuttgart last summer but only managed to score eight goals in the Premier League during his debut season.

His performance led to harsh criticism, with some labeling him the worst signing in Premier League history.

Since Matthias Jaissle took over at Newcastle, there has been speculation about whether Woltemade would receive another opportunity this season.

The forward was an unused substitute in the Magpies’ 2-2 draw against Liverpool during the opening weekend of the Premier League.

Although he started in the Carabao Cup match against West Brom on Wednesday, he did not score in the 3-2 victory at home.

Is he moving on?

It now seems that Woltemade is not included in the long-term plans at St James’ Park, as Newcastle is eager to transfer him.

The German international may already have potential options, with Napoli reportedly interested.

Fabrizio Romano states that the Serie A club recently reached out to Newcastle to inquire about Woltemade’s availability.

The report indicates that discussions occurred this week between the two clubs.

With the Magpies clearly intent on selling Woltemade, it remains uncertain whether Napoli will intensify their efforts to acquire the forward.

The Serie A club is also exploring a potential transfer for Chelsea’s Marc Guiu.

Their strategy to recruit a new centre-forward comes in light of Romelu Lukaku’s recent move to Fenerbahce, which has left Rasmus Hojlund with the responsibility of leading the attack.

Napoli may not be the only Italian team considering a bid for Woltemade.

European football analyst Andy Brassell has recently suggested that Cesc Fabregas’ Como could provide the 24-year-old with a second chance.

As the Serie A side prepares for their inaugural Champions League season, Brassell emphasized that Woltemade would be a valuable addition to their attacking lineup, especially given Alvaro Morata’s struggles during his loan last season.

He stated on talkSPORT: “If we’re seeking a cost-effective loan for a player who still has the potential to reach elite status.

“I believe this could be an intriguing opportunity for Como if they can negotiate a deal.”

Woltemade’s tenure at Newcastle

As previously noted, Woltemade faced challenges in making an impact during his first season in English football.

Despite an overall disappointing goal tally, the German had a promising start, netting four goals in his initial five Premier League matches.

However, he subsequently experienced a decline in performance, managing to score only four additional league goals last season, with just one occurring in 2026.

If he departs Tyneside after merely a year in the northeast, Woltemade will leave having made 51 appearances and scored 11 goals in total.

“The main focus is on Fernandez-Pardo, to whom Newcastle has been assertively presenting their project,” Waugh reported.

Interestingly, Waugh disclosed that Newcastle had largely dismissed their chances of acquiring the 21-year-old after missing out on European competition, but this perspective appears to have shifted following positive indications regarding Fernandez-Pardo’s interest in relocating to St. James’ Park.

“They have since gained enough confidence that the versatile winger-cum-forward would still be inclined to join, prompting them to re-enter the pursuit,” Waugh stated.

The timing is particularly crucial after Lille manager Davide Ancelotti publicly announced on Thursday that Fernandez-Pardo has been excluded from first-team training while his future is being determined.

“I have decided, in consultation with the club, that he will no longer train with the squad until the end of the transfer window,” Ancelotti remarked. “I am concentrating on the players who are available for tomorrow’s match and who are training with us.”

The challenge remains Lille’s asking price, estimated at around €70 million (£60 million) for the 21-year-old, following Newcastle’s final offer of €60 million (£51.5 million) for Fernandez-Pardo on Tuesday. Waugh confirmed that Newcastle is not prepared to meet the French club’s current valuation, while some figures on Tyneside remain skeptical that a deal will ultimately be finalized.

In the meantime, Stuttgart’s Bilal El Khannouss is being considered as an alternative. Waugh clarified that Newcastle is not currently engaged in active negotiations for the Bundesliga midfielder, as the Magpies are evaluating a limited number of undisclosed alternatives to Martinez-Pardo and do not plan to make a hasty purchase if any of their preferred targets become unavailable.

Currently, Fernandez-Pardo is undoubtedly the main focus. Newcastle has gained sufficient motivation from the player to reignite a chase it previously deemed improbable, and Ancelotti’s choice has heightened the urgency for Lille to reach a resolution before Tuesday.
