“If you take out the player, that can also be considered a foul or a penalty. That’s how I interpreted the situation.”

“Once the referee awarded the penalty, I believed it was unlikely he would reverse his decision. I was genuinely surprised that he did.”

Lineker commented, “I wasn’t particularly surprised. My perspective is that when two players are approaching each other, especially since Jones’ touch was slightly heavy, it turned into a near 50/50 situation.

With both players moving quickly and aggressively in opposite directions, the only way to deem it a foul would be if the player who arrives second is the one at fault.

I believe that once the goalkeeper reaches the ball first, they are essentially just colliding.”
